My left brakelight doesn't work with the headlights on either, and I just got stopped by the police because of it. What exactly is a jackfish?

I am having a problem with the driver's side tail light going off when I turn on the headlights and then apply my brakes.

How can I fix this problem?

The dealer told me that it may be a "circuit board" that is in the tail light assembly and my only recourse would be to buy a whole new unit.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Rear light and brakelight don't work when headlights are turned on 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My first guess would be a ground problem.
The headlights and tail lights are controlled by the same headlight switch, but the brake lights are on a totally different circuit.
You may have to get a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams needed to troubleshoot the circuits if the ground connections are ok.
The lights involve the body computer and other components.

My rear lights on my 99 jeep grand cherokee do not work when I turn the lights on. They work fine when the lights are off. Any idea as to what the cause might be. Any place I can view a wiring diagram...

These Jeeps are notorious for the retainers breaking that hold the circuit board type wiring against the bulb contacts. With my 2000 Grand Cherokee, the brake lights would work when the headlight/tail lights were off. If the lights were on, the rear lights would go out altogether when I pressed the brakes. The easist fix would be replacing the tail light assemblies, but these are not cheap. My fix was to open up the inside cover of the tail light housing and use machine screws in each of the locations that the plastic tabs hold the retainer against the light housing.
