The computer controlled shift solenoids are mounted on the hydraulic control valve body of the transmission, this in turn is located inside the transmission.

My question is my 2002 Montero sport takes a while to shift does it mean I need a transmission

If transmission fluid level is up to par then you just might need tranny repair. And that is not cheap.

My husband recently bought a 95 toyota avolon xls does it have a securiy system

It might have a passive anti-theft system and perhaps even a crude alarm system. I suggest you check in the vehicle handbook to be certain or ask your local Toyota dealer.

Can the cruse control somehow be the cause that the automatic transmission on a 2002 ford Taurus not shifting into drive or neutral after starting the car and shifting it out of park?

No not the cruise thats for sure but it could be the solonoid inside the gearbox on the end of the control cable ?? well along these lines anyway is where i would look first

P0773 code toyoto avolon 2002

This code means there is a malfunction with your SL Solenoid (Automatic transmission torque converter lockup). This could mean that the solenoid is bad, faulty wiring or bad engine control unit.

My 95 olds cutlass v6 3.1L sometimes wont shift out of third gear and it just completely shut off on the thruway... what does this mean?

Its possibly a bad shift solonoid on the trans itself. These trannys' 4T60E have 3 solonoids for shifting 1 for 1st and 2nd, 1 for 2nd to 3rd, and 1 for 3rd to overdrive. Its quite possible that the valve is sticking in the valve body. This can be a somewhat difficult job to do. But the solonoids arent that expensive. I would suggest a trans fluid flush and a new screen/filter and see if that helps. If you take it to a dealer the solonoid/s replacement will be around $800 or more.

1st and 2nd shift error on code reader in trans

Shift error codes are enabled not only if the solonoids are faulty, does your scanner show you the solonoids switching? you could have a wiring fault. It could also be the pcm not allowing the solonoids to activate. These complicated systems are very difficult to diagnose for us profesionals with all the scanners and machines we have. Find a transmission shop in your area with a system to drive the vehicle bypassing the computor system, this will determine electrical or internal trans failure. But before you do anything check your conections from the transmission to the pcm. Also all the engine conectors and earth straps.
