Question about Cars & Trucks
The fluid should be changed along with the filter every 60,000 miles, the whole idea is to keep the transmission working well, it is "preventive" maintenance and is essential to keeping the truck running a long long time like new.

The shaft in your power steering pump has broken. Your brakes work off of a system known as Hydra-Boost. If this shaft is broken then your steering and brakes are lost. I contacted GM after I had my power steering pump replaced and they sent me a check for the cost of my repairs. My truck was not under warranty or recalled but earlier models (2500HD) had been recalled for the power steering pump shaft. The pump was the same part number for my 2002 2500HD as the recalled years. Good Luck!

without hearing exact noise it is hard to diagnose. these vehicles had a normal cold start knocking noise due to the low friction rings used allowed piston some extra movement. when carbon builds up on pistons it gets worse will go away after about a minute running. it does not affect life of engine or performance. i think this may be noise you hear. or possible it is a lifter leaking down and taking a while to pump up

The air filter is located under the hood, passenger side, up by the windshield. it has a small retangular cover about 3 X 10 that pulls off

Hi :) Sound like a rebuild is coming. The transmission in that truck is 4L60-E and they have a habit of doing this from ware. What happen's is that the pressure regulator and boost valves get sloppy in the pump and the pressure drops and burns out the 3-4 clutch pack and another thing that can happen if there is not any burnt smell to the fluid is a steel 1/4 inche ball could have got stuck in the valve body seperator plate and is not allowing fluid pressure against the 3-4 clutch pack piston.Take it in to transmission specialist he might be able to save it.
