The compressor is the same but it may have a different pulley and the plug may be indexed on the wrong side. If you have a set of snap ring pliers you can put your coil and pulley on that compressor or it may already be the same ones just make sure you put the plug where it is on your original compressor.

SOURCE: 96 ford windstar ignition probs
Yes but I would use a relay also because it would probably be to much current load(60amp) for just a toggle switch.Relay has switch side and a coil side, when coil side is energized it closes the switch side so current will flow thru it. I would wire the relay switch side to the yellow wire of igntion switch(trace it back to before the splice)because it has 3 connections on the switch itself. Then hook the coil side of the relay to a power source and use the toggle switch in between the coil ground side of relay and ground.

Is it a low down in the engine toc, toc, toc or a lighter tic, tic , tic sound?
The lower one is quite often the main bearings, rather than pulling the engine to fix it run 10W30 oil in it instead of 5W30 and treat the old lady with respect and don't rev or drive her till the knocking stops. It stops because the oil pressure has build up. If it is the lighter ticking this is the hydraulic lifters, don't worry about it, just do the same. Make sure you don't go longer than about 4000 miles between oil changes. I put Synthetic blend in all my cars and run 5000 miles between changes.
Hope this helps.
