Does it do this at idle? If so, you may have a vacuum leak. It's common for the intake manifold gaskets to leak, and cause this type of problem.

You should have the codes checked to see if there are any faults recorded, this will help pinpoint the problem too!

What are the signs when you need to replace a catalytic converter on a hyundai sonata 2001

When the engine runs out puff at high revs (blocked exhaust system)--- when the cat converter rattles when bumped Cracked and falling apart)-- when the fault codes refer to o2 sensor faulty ( too much back pressure). These are some indicators of a failed converter.

Engine starts and idles fine, but will not rev up (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 diesel auto)

If it was a fuel shortage the engine would rev but to limited speed. This is a lack of air to throttle body. Check for clogged air filter and all the piping and the throttle body.

Jaguar x type 2.5 v6 will not idle.

Hello

The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

How to fix 2006 vw passat 2.0t repair code po171

Check the engine for vacuum leaks in the small rubber hosing around the inlet manifold, run the engine and spray wd40 around the hoses if the engine revs rise you've a vac leak. Could also be a faulty MAF sensor which is located near the airbox with an electrical connector running to it. That fault code means your ECU thnks the engine is running lean so is compensating by adding fuel. Either you're gettng extra air into the intake that shouldn't be there or the MAF sensor is sending the wrong signals.

The oil pressure is low at idle and rises with higher engine revs. Oil levels are ok, new oil approx 2000kms ago. Was a slight noise at one stage in the engine but went away after engine's revs in

It sounds as if the clearance that the bearings normally run in have been surpassed and need to be replaced. Higher engine revs will supply extra oil which will overcome any small discrepencies but constant running at this stage will result in faster degradation of all engine components concerned resulting in a more expensive repair. Shes basically worn out.

Tempeture hand on gauge rises and falls as you accelerate and slow down. Also rises and falls when you turn on the internal blower in the car. The engine does not appear to be overheating.

The problem you describe is likely being caused by the dashboard earth (ground) reference moving as the 12v power system current draw changes.

Ensure battery terminal post connections are in good order, clean and firmly connected,
Ensure the all chassis, alternator, engine and dashboard ground connections are intact and in good order.
Ensure all dashboard loom connections are properly connected,
Check alternator output voltage (battery terminal voltage) is approx 14.5 volts with engine running, while loaded with headlights or blower motor running.

If all above is ok, the dashboard internal voltage regulator supplying the instruments may be faulty (unlikely - do all other checks first).

Check engine light, falling revs

The check engine light is an indication that the computer has detected a fault in one of the car's systems. Take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for fault codes. The codes will show what faults the computer has identified. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. This will help narrow down the cause of your problem and help you make a determination on how you want to proceed. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Oil pressure fine when i start car. when you drive for a little the pressure will drop and rise any solutions.

Depending on the range of rise and fall, this is completely normal. Oil thins out as it gets hot so you will notice the pressure drop significantly at hot idle. A typical value would be 20psi, then as the engine revs up, the pump creates more pressure because it can now keep up with and exceed the leak-down or bleed-off from the bearings. The maximum pressure would be limited by the relief valve in the oil pump which could typically be as high as 60psi.
