Question about 1998 Chevrolet Express

1 Answer

Highbeam flashes by itself

I have a 2003 Chevy Express and the high beams come on all by themselves.I'll be driving along and they will start to flash on and off.....I've taken the turn signal stalk off the steering column and unhooked all the wiring and it still does it.
It'd done it sporadicaly during the last year but in the last 2 weeks it's doing it all the time........since I drive at night it's annoying to me and the other drivers who think I'm flashing them all the time.

I also have a 2003 Chevy Express Van that does the same thing. The high beams come on whenever they want to, and even stay on for several minutes after the van is shut off. The high beam switch does work on the column, in that I can shut off the lowbeams with the multiswitch on the column. If I turn on the headlights and switch to high beams only, they do not flash on and off. It only happens when I have the low beams on, or no lights on at all. For a couple days I could shut the high beams off by opening and closing the hood on the van. That method does not always work, however. I switched out the high beam relay in the fuse box, ut it did not help. Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks

I still haven't found a solution.I've replaced the entire headlight switch and the entire turn signal stalk and it still does it.I even drove witht he turn signal stalk unhoked and sitting on the dash and the lights still flashed.

I too found a temp solution by smacking the dash but above the instrument cluster, that only works for an hour or so.

It's really frustrating...thanks for your comments though

I'll have to check that out thanks...I'd do some crawling right now but it's snowing again so it's going to have to wait.

This is not a solution, but a rather frustrating temporary remedy. I have found since I posted the problem on Dec. 2nd, that if I slap the dashboard, directly above the passenger cigarette lighter, on the dash board ridge, I can get then to turn off ...... at least for a few minutes. I hope I find the permanent solution before I destroy my dash with slapping :)

Dear "Mostlyheep," did you ever figure out how to fix the highbeam problem on the Chevy Express Van? My 2003 is still doing the annoying thing where the highbeams come on by themselves. It is driving me crazy. Thank you.

    Dear MostlyHeep,

Yesterday, I wiggled the input wires to the BCM (body control module), just behind the kneeboard on the passenger side. It Worked! I could trun the highbeams off and on. Apparently the highbeams are grounded in the BCM, right in front of where the passenger sits. Tonight I am going to crawl under and fiddle with the BCM input plugs. I will let you know.

I have a 2003 chevy box truck and the headlamps flash while hitting bumps in the road, the turn signal swich was replaced and still does it.

I am assuming you mean the turn signal switch was replaced in the hopes the problem was the dimmer switch.
The headlight switch sends a ground signal to the body computer which controls the high and low headlight relays. It sounds like you have a bad connection in the wiring harness somewhere, especially if the high and low beams blink.

Clk320 highbeam does not work

The High Beams on the CLK320 are located on the Blinker Switch. If the Blinker is working but no High beams, then you need to troubleshoot that Power is getting to the Headlights to that you do not have Burned out Bulbs. If Power is getting OUT but not to the Bulbs, you have a major electrical issue that will require special tools..

Need wiring diagram for headligt on 2003 chevy impala with 3.8 cu engine

Sounds like a short or the relay is going bad to the headlamps. You may be able to google for the diagram but probably will need to get a repair manual from the nearby auto parts store for appx $25.00. I would start by checking continuity with the battery disconnected on that side from the positive wire to a ground. Also start with checking the relay, they are usually generic and you should be able to swap two as long as the numbers match and see if that fixes the issue.

2005 XJ8- both key fobs lock and unlock features have quit working. have tried new batteries. still do not work. what now?

If the fuses are fine then reprogram the key fob here is what you do...get into the car, make sure the doors are closed, pull the high beam stalk back towards you so that the high beam is on and hold it...then insert the key and turn it to phase two, then flash the highbeam with the stalk three times by pulling it to you,,,you will hear a beep(hold the stalk),and the foblight will flash on the dash, then while still holding the stalk to highbeam, press the remote transponder once then the car will beep once then remove the key and press any button on the fob to make the car respond.
