SOURCE: Nissan Maxima stalling/poor acceleration from stoplight

Maxima in 1996 didn't really have a problem with the air flow meters. I would see if the computer on top is clean. Se if you can get any water from the heater box/A/C box. There is a drain tube, that clogges up and water will leak onto your ECM/computer, flooding it. Ckeck your floor on passenger side right by the fire wall. Make sure that is dry. Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: Hesitation or stumble during acceleration

take your car for a tune up
if they are carburetor type motors you may need your carbie cleaned and a tune up
if you clean it your self with carbie cleaner it may increase in idle speed this is nothing to worries about it is a simple adjustment
with a carburetor type motor they tend to idle higher when their cold this is the automatic choke kicking in and normally it should happen till the car is a bit warmer and the accelerator has been depresses
although a car should idle at 800 rpm my paddok car dose when it is cold it idles at 1200rpm i like it this way as the car warms up quicker as i will not drive a car while it is cold
hope this helps

I have a 1998 nissan 200 sx 1.6L engine and the car hesitates while accelerating. The engine light is not on and there are no codes. It will accelerate slowly with just a little pressure on the gas pedal....

SOULDS LIKE EXCESSIVE EXHAUST BACK PRESSURE CAUSED BY A RESTRICTED CAT CONVERTOR. SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 1.5 TO 3 PSI CHECKED AT THE O2 SENSOR AT IDLE AND AT 2500 RPM. THE CONVERTOR CAN BECOME DAMAGED IF UNBURNT FUEL ENTERS IT. THIS IS CAUSED BY TUNE UP CONCERNS USUALLY.

I have a 2003 nisan maximawhen accelerating I hear

You hear clicking from the engine. If it increases in speed when you accelerate and decreases as you slow down, try listening for it in park. If the sound continues you need to take it to a shop. If the sound is only present when you are moving you need to have your CV joints checked.

Sounds like you have more power in the upper RPM's. Alot of cars feel the power band with-in 4K-5K RPM.
