THE SMOKE IS BLUISH GRAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS AT SPEEDS OF 15 & TWENTY MILES AN HOUR. THE ENGINE IS A V-8 W/59000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAD SAT FOR 2 DAYS IN THE GARAGE BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS NOTED. I TRIED ADDING FUEL INJECTOR CLEANING FLUID TO THE GAS TANK BUT NO RESULTS.

After taking the vehicle to the mechanic(GM CERTIFIED). I was told that the no. 7 engine cylinder sleeve was damaged possibly due to so hard running maybe even racing. I was told that the engine would have to be replaced or rebuilt. can you please comment on this situation?

I have a 2003 trailblazer with 4.2 engine. Losing power when driving especially when going up hill (even small hill). Will drop down to 15 mph. got a code of p0172. Replaced O2 sensor and the...

Yes , it is more then likely the Catalytic converter is clogged ! Pull the O2 sensor before the Cat an do a back pressure test ! Testing for plugged clogged restricted exhaust converter An your P0172 means you have a rich condition , does not mean O2 sensor is bad ! Do you have 4.3 L vortex ? Could be bad fuel pressure regulator leaking ! caused your cat to have a melt down an starting to plug ! 4.3L or 5.0L vortex engines . with spider injectors ! chevy vortec p0172 p0175 So you have two problems ! Hope this helps !

Black smoke from exhaust

Black smoke is an indication of too much fuel-running rich-in the cylinders. The air/fuel mixture is way off-too much fuel. Possible causes are cylinder misfires (runs and idles rough, a noticeable miss), leaking fuel injectors, or a failed fuel pressure regulator.
Take off the vacuum line to the regulator (on the fuel rail?)-if there is evidence of gas in the vacuum line, the regulator has failed and excess gas is being sucked into the engine through the vacuum line.

You should take a fuel pressure reading to check pressure against the specification for your car.
Also possible that the fuel metering is correct, but the air being supplied to the cylinders is lacking. A clogged air filter could cause that, but you would also experience a rough running condition. Since you didn't mention that, I would think the fuel metering is wrong-too much gas.

What would be wrong with my truck, i was driving one day and it dyed..i tryed to start it again and it woulkd run and drive but only let me go 20k, could it be my fuel filter????or what could it be????

Vehicles: Any vehicle unable to achieve highway speeds.

I agree with your assessment - the fuel system is almost always the culprit when a vehicle cannot exceed a given speed.

Priority Checks: fuel pump function has gone marginal, fuel filter clogged, in-tank fuel strainer clogged, fuel pressure regulator failure, fuel rail leaking, fuel injector electrical harness/connectors loose, faulty fuel injector(s)

Secondary causes: CKP (crankshaft position sensor), CMP (camshaft position sensor), ECC (Engine Control Computer)

Tertiary Checks: Oxygen sensor(s), catalytic converter plugged

Faulty sensor(s) or ECC would cause immediate performance problems/speed limitations due to engine mis-timing. Whereas fuel system problems would limit the vehicle's performance by limiting the fuel available to the engine.
A plugged catalytic converter (or other exhaust system constriction) would limit engine performance by restricting the ability of the engine to properly exhaust.

2001 lincoln ls sputters when i punch the pedal

sputting when taking off could be lean fuel problem caused by clogged fuel filter or clogged fuel injectors.weak spark ignition caused by faulty alternator will set off check engine light, and a faulty tps sensor will cause problems on take off it will set off check engine light if faulty.if all is good low cylinder compression will cause sputting noise due to worn leaking engine valves.

P305 code we have changed the spark plugs and wires we have replaced the fuel filter and had diagnostics done on the car and the mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the cyclinders

This is what all should be checked:
P0305 indicates the PCM has detected misfires on cylinder number five.
Here are six common problems that may cause OBD trouble code P0305:
  1. Fouled, cracked, worn or otherwise misfiring spark plug (Replaced)
  2. Bad ignition wire - burnt, cracked, carbon tracked wire or plug boot (Replaced)
  3. Defective ignition components - ignition module, ignition coil, distributor cap, etc..
  4. Vacuum leaks
  5. Clogged or otherwise defective fuel injector
  6. Internal mechanical engine fault, ie., low cylinder compression, bad valve, collapsed lifter, etc..
The aforementioned list covers the most common causes of P0305 in the order we feel is most likely to occur based on our past experiences. Certainly, each situation is different and there are other possible causes for cylinder misfires. Here are other causes we've seen (in no particular order).
  • Low fuel pressure
  • Leaking fuel pressure regulator
  • Poor fuel quality - water in gas tank
  • Uneven EGR flow caused by carbon build-up on engine with multiple EGR ports
  • loose or corroded fuel injector wiring
There seems to be a few things that have yet to be checked by your mechanic.
I know it is frustrating when the OBDII codes don't point you directly to the problem. To be hones this is something that I can not solve from here. However I hope that with the above information you can get your misfire detected code to go away after the real problem is discovered.

My 2003 jeep Cherokee does not have power and makes funny sound, i suspect the carburator or injectors, what could it be

2003 should be a fuel injected engine. A misfire could cause these symptons mentioned. Check ur spark plugs, if d injectors are part of d problem it could be they clogged ith carbon, service ur injector nuzzles, check n change d fuel filter too. I also advice a look into ur fuel pump working condition, a clogged filter or dirty fuel tank can affect ur fuel pump. Be sure its ok n the pressure s right.

Engine misses and sputters at starteup

Hello if the engine only misses on start ups and goes away after running, then the most probable cause is a leaking fuel injector. try having the fuel injectors cleaned first. sometimes a high pressure cleaning will correct this problem

Engine surges like it going to stall, then starts racing.

Check your 02 sensor, this could cause those symptoms, let me know if this helped, thanks mike from fixya.

Its like its missing,no power.maybe one cyl not working prop

MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE MISSING AND NO POWER LIKE FAULTY TPS SENSOR. SOUND LIKE STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER, CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS, CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS IF YOU HAVE ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTIONS.OMIT IF YOU HAVE 2 BARREL CARBURETOR. DO A LITTLE TUNE UP.REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR. REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. A BAD IGNITION COIL WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO MISS.DO A COMPRESSION TEST CHECK FOR WORN CYLINDERS WILL CAUSE ENGINE MISS.
