Question about Honda Civic

Check engine light went on

At the time the light went on, the code reader said it was iso9141, po780=shift malfunction. About a month later the light has gone back off. I took the car back to OReilly's and the code reader says the same thing. What is up with this car?

I already asked a question on 2009 aveo odometer stopped working a month later speedometer stopped runs ok engine light on months

The full title of your 'engine light', is actually 'engine MALFUNCTION light'. You shouldn't ignore it and leave it for 'months' as you can incur irreparable damage. You need to get it on a OBD11 code reader as soon as possible. The code reader will tell you where the faults are. Everything points to a problem with the Body Control Module or sensors attached to it.

Nissan maxima code po780 2005

code p 0780 refers to gear selection--shift malfunction===causes --wiring --TR( transmission range) sensor--shift solenoids ---transmission mechanical fault
take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop for an exact diagnosis of the fault
I seriously doubt that you have a transmission box mechanical fault so get a second opinion if a replacement transmission is suggested

The malfunction indicator light came on about a month ago in my Suzuki Alto (2005) and I took it to the garage and was told there was a misfire in cylinder 2. I was told it was fine so they reset the light...

If the code has been a misfire in the same cylinder every time, the problem is very likely the ignition coil for that cylinder. When the ignition coil first starts to go, the malfunctions will be sporadic and therefore difficult to troubleshoot. The ignition coil can be tested for resistance on both primary and secondary windings in the coil to prove it is failing.

Auto trans shifter shifts p-r-n-d-2-1 it wont shift out of 1st .. sat for 8 months i drove it 50 miles 5 days a week for 9 years serviced reg. never any troubles before i started it i changed oil filter...

There must have been a 'Check Engine' Light? When a 'check engine light' (MIL=Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is turned on, there is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set/stored in the ECM/PCM (Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module). This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this code, you may begin diagnosis. You'll need an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostics II) code reader. You should find a P07?? number stored (P07??... is a transmission code).

My check engine light is on, and today my temperature gauge stopped working and we have replaced the engine coolant sensor and the connector and temperature gauge still not working. PLEASE HELP

Could be the thermostat. I know nothing about cars but I noticed my 2000 Grand Prix temp gauge was not going to the normal level. My wife drives this car so I didn't notice it for a month or so. Eventually the Engine light came on. Took it to Autozone and the code came back as P0180... (1) low coolant (2) bad thermostat (3) enginge fuel temp sensor. They used a code reader that was about the size of an Ipod nano.

Coolant was okay, so took it to my mechanic. His netbook sized computer showed it was the Thermostat. He reset the codes and the temp guage went back to normal. Was short on $40 for the fix at the time, so I parked the car and promised to bring it back in 3 days. Went out and checked the car a day later at 25 degrees outside without starting the car... gauge still sitting at the normal level. No question it's the thermostat. That car will not be driven again until T.stat is fixed in 2 days.
