Question about 1993 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

I have a 1993 pontiac bonneville that goes really slow between 20 to 40mph and i have cleaned the mass air flow sensor and the problem persists. The service engine light comes off and on, and the security lights on. The car has stalled a few times . Is it the ignition coil packs or the knock sensor. Please help i have no idea what it is.

Have vechicle code scan, faulty mass air flow sensor will cause engine run poorly stall out.sound like transmission could be slipping not going in over drive if vechicle cant go over 40 miles an hour.change transmission fluid and filter see it helps. mass air flow sensor has to be replaced most people try clean them but best to replace them.

SOURCE: 1999 pontiac grand prix . will not run

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: I own a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville my check engine

No the stalling is caused by something else like a dirty fuel filter of bad fuel pressure due to a worn fuel pump. With a bad O2 and MAF sensor the ECM will go a on open loop mose for those sensors causing bad performance and gas mileage. Replace the O2 sensor and try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner and check the wire harness, look for any damages to the wires and replace if needed. As for the stalling, try replacing the fuel filter first and we can go from there. Keep me posted, be glad to help get your car running 100% and save you some money the same time.

SOURCE: 2001 pontiac cowl pack not fireing.

Here is a diagram of the firing order for you 3800 engine. Cylinders 1 and 4 are misfiring because the operate under the same "Coil Pack" and the coil pack has unfortunately gone bad. O'Reilly sells them for between $30-50 depending on the amount of warranty coverage you want. To replace, simply unscrew the screws that hold the coil pack in place. WAIT before unplugging the plug wires. Place the old coil pack and new coil pack next to each other, unplug one plug wire, then plug it to that same port on the new coil pack. then do the same for the other plug wire. Then screw your new coil pack in place, and start you car. should run fine!

P0102 2001 pontiac bonneville

Hi there:
DTC P0102 is a fairly straight forward code pointing to a fault in the Mass Air Flow Sensor. I suggest check to make sure there are no holes or air leaks in the air filter housing or ducts.

Also, check that the air filter element is not excessively dirty and restricting air flow; at this point, if the visual inspection is ok, suspect a faulty Mass Air Flow sensor.

Check in THIS LINK information about description and additional tests.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Take the handle of a screwdriver and tap on the mass air flow sensor while someone else tries to start it.If it starts then take the mass air flow sensor off and clean the small thin wires with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and let dry for 10 minutes and re-install.

P0101

P0101: MAF or VAF A Circuit Range/Perf

- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Intake air leaks
- Faulty mass air flow sensor

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.

What can cause code p0171

Dirty mass air flow sensor or clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump.First i would take the mass air flow sensor off and clean it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner wait 10 mminutes then re-install.If problem still exist then trplace the fuel filter. Then check your fuel pressure it should be 48-55 psi with key on and engine off.If its not within these specs replace the fuel pump.

couldn't hurt to clean the Mass Air Flow sensor... sounds kinda dumb, but coming from someone who had a 2002 Bonneville with 270,000 (that's correct) miles on it, its cheap to do, and couldn't hurt. be sure to read the directions though. fuel filter is cheap n easy to replace also.

Try either the throttle position sensor or the mass air flow sensor. One of these is going bad.
