Question about 2009 Toyota Camry
We have followed instructions in manual but can only disable lever by drivers seat. trunk can still be opened with remote. how do I disable this. Have a 2002 camry and the method to disable the remote trunk opening is the same, but it works on the 2002. Thanks
To prevent accidental opening of the trunk caused by an accidental pressing of the "OPEN TRUNK" button on your keyfob, you can pull the cover that hides the wiring harness on the trunk (you can buy replacement plastic retaining tabs at an auto parts store if you break one) and look for the wiring harness. I cut the wire controlling the electronic trunk solenoid and soldered in momentary pushbutton that goes to the outside of the trunk. To open the trunk, I have to depress the pushbutton on the trunk and then press the "OPEN TRUNK" button on my keyfob. I also soldered in a bypass switch in parallel with the pushbutton in case I want to disable the extra security I get by having a pushbutton. It will cost you about $15 in parts (get a high quality, weather rated pushbutton) and about 3 hours of time.

Is the key that you have a genuine Toyota key? If so, is the key Black or Grey? If you have the grey key, you only have the "valet" key, and it will not do what you want. You need the Black key. Put the black key in the trunk and turn it 90 degrees & remove it. This controls the inside lever on/off for the trunk. The key hole will either be horizontal or verticle. One way lets the inside lever work, the other position stops it.

If you manually disable it, the car will not start. You need to go to the dealer and have them turn it off with the computer. This is so no one can bypass it and steal your car.

So the problem is the cylinder for the key will not turn and disengage the lock nor does the driver side release lever.
I recommend bringing the vehicle to a repair shop. This repair procedure is tricky and whom ever gets the job has to remove the rear seats to get into the trunk to get the trunk open.
