Question about 2001 Dodge Durango

Brake caliper when i went to change my brake pads i took of the caliper on the passenger side. when i went to put them back on the top pin in the caliper will not go back into were it supposed to like its strip what can i do about this.

Did you try to thread it back in with caliper out of the way? Sometimes the caliper is just a hair out of it's proper position, and will cause that, which is probably a good thing, so it doesn't get re-assembled incorrectly. If one of the bolts will thread in without caliper on, I'd double check my assembly position, otherwise use good bolt to determine whether threads on spindle are bad, or on bolt that came out. You may need to run a tap through it, or a thread chaser.

Changing brakes on motorcycle not car. i can get pads off piston side and retract piston, question how do you move caliper so there is room to put pads on inner side


i hope you took the caliper off the bike otherwise youll never get the pad in there. caliper rides on bushings that should be greased anyway. youll see when you get it offa there. thats how the caliper floats.

Hi ! changed brake pads on my navara d40 ,opened brake reservoir,took wheel off,opened top nut ,caliper went back.Took out old pads pushed in piston with g clamp,drivers side perfect, I have a problem...


Sounds like you have a seized passenger side caliper assembly. May need to be replaced, in which case you are better off replacing both front calipers as a set.

Remving caliper pins on 2000 vw jetta and caliper


For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. You should buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

How do you change front brake pads on an Audi A6 2006


How to change front brake pads & rotors (brake disc) on 2006 Audi A6:

Atention!!!
Don't disconnect any brake line from caliper!
Don't disconnect any ABS sensor!
For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:

1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Remove brake carrier from wheel bearing housing (two ribbed bolts). 125 Nm
7. Remove brake disc from wheel hub.
8. Install brake carrier on wheel bearing housing. Tightening torque for two ribbed bolts = 125 Nm.
9. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
10. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
11. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
12. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
13. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.

For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose! 2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper. 3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease). 4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier. 5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston. 6. Brakes on saturn


Front brakes on these cars are very simply.

1) Chock the back wheels and put the ebrake on
2) Loosen the front lug nuts (19MM)
3) Jack car up and place on jack stands, make sure car is secure
4) Remove front wheels.
5) Start on the drivers side and look at the top of the caliper
6) There is a bolt that the head is facing in towards the car it is 14MM
7) Loosen that bolt until it stops moving out, it is a slider pin and needs to be pulled out the rest of the way once the threads are no longer holding it in
8) Grab the top of the caliper (not the bracket the caliper bolts to the knuckle with) and pull towards the left till the caliper rotates down
9) Remove both pads by sliding them in towards each other and out of the clips that hold them
10) Take a C-Clamp and press the piston back in by putting one side of the c-clamp into the bore of the piston and the other side on the caliper outside and compress the piston till it bottoms out.
11) Remove c-clamp and the piston will stay where it is
12) Put new pads into the clips just the opposite you took them out.
13) Fold caliper back into bracket.
14) Lube the SMOOTH part of the slider pin you took out earlier with caliper grease. Get it nice and lubed, BUT NOT THE THREADS and reinsert the pin and push it in and then tighten it down, about 30-40 foot pounds is plenty. I think the manual calls for 32.

If you're replacing the rotors as well then instead of doing this first simply pull the entire caliper and bracket off by removing the two larger bolts on the inside of the bracket that attach it to the knuckle. Then hang the caliper and bracket assembly on the springs by tying it with wire so you do not put stress on the brake line.

Then do the passenger side.

When you put the wheels back on and get everything tight get in the car and continually pump the brakes to get them to contact the rotors again since they were bottomed out. The pedal should come back after 4 or 5 pumps of the pedal.

Bed in your brakes by doing a series (5 or so) stop from 50MPH to 5MPH and DO NOT STOP in between and then go on a drive to let them cool down and then come back home and park the car. Try not to hold the brake when you are stopped at all during this or else you won't properly bed in your pads and you'll have problems shortly.
