SOURCE: 2003 honda accord steering collum

No, I don't think they started lighting them in the Accord until around 2005. I had a 2004 and always had to feel around for them in the dark. If I remember correctly, they had some ridges or bumps on them to help identify them by feel.

Go to this website and it explains your VATS in detail it sounds like your VATS may have been disabled but as I am not there to see the wiring harness or if wires have been cut I can't say for sure, But go to this website http://vats.likeabigdog.com/ and it goes into great detail with instructions and photos. to answer your issue.

Hope this helps please do not forget to rate/vote or place a testimonial on my advice and if I can help further please do not hesitate to ask as i have a 1984 Camaro Z28 in my yard that we are starting to rebuild and have owned several and performed my own mechanics because I wanted it safe and right. And my husband is a 22 year controls electrician in concept design and engineering so when in doubt I can ask him also.

Be sure the AIR BAG/VATS fuse 10 amp, is good. there is a STARTER ENABLE RELAY up high on the left of the steering column. I ASSUME the anti theft light is not flashing?" at the STARTER ENABLE RELAY the YELLOW wire is hot in the crank mode and comes out large PURPLE to the starter. the small purple wire is hot in the crank mode if the fuse (air bag/vats) is good. the small yellow is grounded through the park switch and the VATS module (anti theft)

Air bag light comes on then goes off on its own

Most of the time it's the clockspring ( coiled wire connection between the steering wheel tand the steering collum) this part wears out after awhile and the wires start to fail. If the SRS computer does'nt(see) the resistance of the fuse( detonator) inthe airbag it'll turn the light on if it goes back in range it'll turn the light back off. If you have the tools and experience to remove and reinstall the steering whell and have done jobs like replaceing lock cyclinders and or turn signal switches and feel confrotable doing them this is in the same area. If you have never pulled and steering wheel you'd best at least get help from someone who has done this kind or work before and is confident in useing the tools required or hire the work done by someone who has done this work before.

1999 ford gear handles moves but won't select gear and the car is still in park

Two things happen. On collum shift cars and trucks the bolts work loose out of the shift lever to the cable under the dash where the shift cable connects to the steering collum. the cable connects to a lever that is connected the the shift tube ( part of the steering collum ) bolt heads are 30 torx. the other thing that happens is the cable comes off the trans mission lever and it just snaps on. The bushing waers out and the cable just comes off the pin on the lever coming out of the transmission. Front wheel drive cars it's on the top and rear wheel and trucks it's on the side ( happens less on these and then the cable can break it'self, and the shift cable has to be replaced sometimes if the bushing in the end fails at the transmission end.
