SOURCE: Late 1986 ford 302, F150 pickup

sounds almost like the newer vehicles equiped with cam sensors instead of the distributer system i had a similar problem with an 87 ford bronco 2 it would stall out right around 2800 rpm i replaced the control module usually mounted on the distributer at least mine was and it fixed it right up but as for ur truck im not sure they are only like 30 bucks at autozone or something worth a try right??

SOURCE: cutting out while driving and lack of power

try this: With the parking brake set firmly, put the car in gear and keep one foot firmly on the brake while accelerating (you won't go anywhere...)
If the motor cuts out while this is attempted, replace your ignition/spark plug wires.
Hope this gets you back in business.

I want to eliminate my emissions will it effect the ignition if so how do I override the emission sensors ? It has a 4bbl holly on a 351 h.o. 1986

Yes it will affect everything. I'll explain after I say to get a performance reprogrammer for about $350, its cheaper.
You should take off the catalytics because they will clog without the emissions working. The intake manifold should be changed to eliminate the EGR. The carb may be salvageable but unless you rejet its still an emissions carb.
Then you need another distributor which would work independent of your current module. You may as well remove the old module.
However if you use the reprogrammer everything is reversible. You can still put on say, Flowmaster 40's after the cats and sensors. You can still change timing and shift points(automatic?). Put on a K&N air filter.
You decide what you want.

Hi got a ford f150 1986 f/i will not start

check fuel pressure @ service port on fuel rail. also listen for fuel pump to come on when you first turn on key. pump is in fuel tank. also note i have seen a lot of f150 302 injectors clogg up.but that usually effect idle and performance. if there is good fuel pressure then check fuel injector signal with a tester called a noid light. it is inexpensive and can be found @ most auto part stores. you really should'nt check injector signals with a standard 12 volt testlight. it has been known to burnout the drivers on the ecu. test all that first.

Gas tank won't fill maybe a problem with air valve

Sounds like a problem in the evap emissions system possibly. If the check engine light is on, take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any fault codes stored there. This will help narrow down the cause of the problem and end speculation. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Emissions light stays on 1986 ford f-150 302 v8

You should have a mass of small air hoses and connectors on top of your motor. Check to make sure these are all connected and check for holes. There is a diagram right above the radiator when you have the hood open that tells where they are supposed to go. If none of the hoses are are there, which is common, the truck will still work but may not accelerate well and you won't pass a strict inspection. This was one of the first strict years on emissions and these systems are a nightmare.
