Question about 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Heater blows cold, and fan switch only works on 4 and 5

We have two problems with the heater/AC system. First the switch for the AC/Heater fan only works on settings 4 and 5. Second the heater only blows cold air. When you adjust the hot/cold mix switch you can feel changes in the air flow, but it's still cold air. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    my problem is that the fan only works on 4 and 5 . the heat seems to work ok

    My car initially worked on only 4 and 5 too. During a huge snow storm they stopped working altogether. I'm going to go get it fixed tomorrow so I'll have an answer for you. Just don't make my mistake and ignore the problem.

    heater fan works and switches from defrost to floor etc but wont switch from hot to cold. a/c switch, rear defrost, fresh air and recirc buttons do not work, what could be causing this? I thought maybe either the relay for the control panel or possibly the control unit itself. Any help would be appreciated

    My ac will not blow cold air. Level 5 on the ac dial also will not work. It's like you are turning the whole system off when you click to level 5. Also there is almost no pressure at all.

Working on 4 and 5 speed that the resistor that broken cold air you got to move the selector to see the motor that move the trap hot and cold sometime when the motor was not move to the hot side for a long time its jam the motor on the passager side under dash put to hot and gently tap the motor tanks pierre

1997 Nissan 4 cylinder truck AC works excellent throwing snowballs cold air, then it will blow hot air. Relay switch and clutch has been replaced....Did not fix problem!


sounds like compressor isn't working properly or heater vacuum is opening vent to heater core.try turning on ac and if it cuts on and off repeatedly every few seconds the freon level is not correct or high pressure switch may not be working make sure radiator fan comes on when ac is on.if all this is working properly check vacuum hoses to heater may be opening vent doors to heater.hope this helps

No heat air is blowing cold


First you have to identify what causes the problem.
To do this you have to:
1) When engine is cold check the level of coolant. If it is low fill it up.
2) Start engine and check if engine reaches regular temperature. If your engine is not heated enough it means your thermostat does not work properly and should be replaced.
3) If engine temperature is normal, then check the temperature of pipes that go to/from heater core. These pipes are located up the fire wall (easier access is from the passenger side). If pipe/pipes are cold (even engine is worm) it means you heater core is plugged and should be flushed. Keep in mind, flushing the whole cooling system is different from flushing heater core.
4) If pipe/pipes are hot/warm, turn off the fan, switch controller to the hot position, wait for 3-4 minutes and turn on the fan. Note if the cold air blows first or warm air blows first but it cools down in 5-10 seconds. If the air blows cold than it is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator.
5) If air blows warm first and then cools down, then while running engine and remaining the transmission in PARKING position, press on the gas pedal until your engine reaches 3,000 RPM. Check if your heater blows warm/hot air. If it does, then your water pump does not work properly and should be replaced. If the air still cold, I would suggest to flush the heater core.

MY 1998 FOR TARUS HEATER WILL NOT WORK.WAS DRIVING


It is most probably the problem with blend door or blend door actuator. But just in case I would suggest to follow the entire procedure:

sounds like the vent door is not opening could be mechanical via a cable or electronic via a vacuum solenoid valve

Ac compressort had to be replaced because it seized up. AC ran good for 2 weeks then went out, now the heater doesnt want to work half the time. i dont know if its my heater coil, a leak in my ac lines,...


THE BLEND DOOR THAT CONTROLS HOT TO COLD SWITCHING IS STICKING. THE CONTORL HEAD IS ELECTRIC AND MAY BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. HEAT AND AC ARE 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SYSTEMS EXCEPT FOR THE CONTROLLER UNDER YOUR RADIO. HEATER COIL IS REALLY A HEATER CORE WHICH IS A LITTLE RADIATOR INSIDE THE CAR BEHIND THE DASHBOARD.
