The ticking sound is probably an out of adjustment valve. This can cause performance problems if it is severe enough. Go to www.georgebelton.com/6g.civic.tech/valve.clearance/index.php for step by step instructions w/ detailed photographs for this repair. The timing belt is one of those type of things that works 100% or not at all. At 126,000 miles I recommend having the belt(s) replaced. It is fairly inexpensive to have done and will extend the life of your vehicle 2 fold. If you belt fails it will probably destroy your motor so it is money well spent. Good Luck!!!

What is the growling noise coming from my 94 civic motor

Water pump or pulley most likely.

Always replace water pump and pulleys when you do the timing belt.

Also you may have overtightened the belt.

NOTE, Kevlar belts will make a "whirring" noise for a few thousand miles after replacement, but not a growling.

2010 Honda Civic LX light ticking noise at Idle. 49000 miles on it. No Performance problems observed, But I was curious what the noise might be, And if Autozone can check the codes for anything wrong...

I doubt a "ticking" would cause a code unless it was something like a lifter sticking which may cause a misfire but your engine light would be on if this were the case. Now can you at least narrow down the area it is in like maybe one of the pulleys for your drive belt or does it seem to be in the engine itself. You can try taking the belt(s) off and starting the engine for a short time. If the "ticking" goes away without a drive belt(s) on it, then you need to find out what componant (alternator, A/C compressor, Power steering pump...you get the idea) is making the ticking noise. Codes are in most cases dealing with a sensor of some sort. Hope this helped you....

Does my Civic have a timing chain or a timing belt

It has a timing belt. Recommended to be replace every 105,000 miles, timing belt also run's your water pump good idea to also replace, your engine is also an INTERFERENCE ENGINE which will damage your cylinder head valve's if timing belt goes bad. Hope this was very helpful.

Hello, I have a 2002 honda civic ex. When I turn the key on I get the maintanence required light. after the engine starts the light blinks 10 times and then goes out. I couldn't find any guidance in the...

First, make sure you are talking about your mainanence required light, and not your check engine light.
Your maintanence required light is telling you that some normal maintanence is required since you have traveled some pre-determined number of miles (pre-determined by Honda). For example, it could mean an oil change should take place, etc. If you keep track of those things on your own, then you need only reset the light, as follows:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch just to ON (II). Do not start the car.
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.
Hope this helps you.

When to change timing belt on 2004 honda civic

Honda reccomends timing belt change at 100k. Most Honda dealers like you to change the belt at 90,000 miles (90k). some auto repair places will want to change the belt at 60k but that is not necessary (Note: if in a severe cold or hot climate like florida or canada you would change the belt before 90k or if the belt is over 7 years old.. Good luck:

Roaring noise when car idleing

Quite possibly the air conditioning compressor clutch bearing. I've seen a couple of these go bad now. Have the belt removed and see if the noise goes away.

Alternators

It's not your alternator, why would that cause your lights to flicker as it goes through the battery FIRST (read: it's a giant power filter/surge suppressor)?
A Nippondenso alternator should last for about 10 years or 150K miles or so, unless you are driving 100K miles a months, stop replacing the alternator.
What does the noise sound like?  I think you have a serpentine belt,  is that correct?
