Question about Pontiac Cars & Trucks
Hood will not latch
Hi JM, The catches do wear out and more likely the cables become frayed and do not allow the hood catch to return to the correct position for locking. Try pushing in the handle inside the car. If it work then have the cable replaced asap. If not , you may need to replace the catch mechanism Regards John

SOURCE: hood latch for 1998 chevy blazer
have someone hold the hood latch inside the truck and use a long flathead screwdriver and pry up and down on the latch while yanking on the hood. took me an hour but it worked fine for me

it can be unbolted, but it sounds like your primary latch could be giving you problems. have some one play with the hood release (pushing and pulling) while you release secondary latch and pull up on hood. if you get it open spray all moving parts with wd40.
