All the other gauges work but the fuel gauge dosnt. Can the problem be at the gas tanks? Do I need to drop the gas tank to fix the problem?
This is a problem that is caused by a defective fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank, in order to replace the sender you must remove the fuel tank from the car.

HI, the fuel gauge sending unit is malfunctioning. this is located inside the fuel tank and, it is part of the fuel pump assembly. replacing this failing component will fix this issue.

Definitely the gauge can be changed, provided the float in the fuel tank is OK, i.e. no leaks. This float connects to a potentiometer which records the current flowing thru it and displays it in the gauge. So before replacing the gauge measure the current and match that against the quantity of fuel in the tank...............sodeep

The fuel sending unit is bad,it is in the tank, you may have to buy a fuel pump assy,to receive the sending unit ,if it is not available by itself.

the level sending unit in the tank is attached to the fuel pump module it is a varible resistor it moves as fuel level changes this sending unit can be replaced but if your going to the trouble of replacing it you just as well replace the fuel pump it comes together.

gas cap has no bearing on fuel guage. Sounds like float is broken in tank
