Warning light? There is an orange sun-shaped symbol that started coming on today next to my external thermometer reading. I looked in my owner's manual, but I do not know what it is. Can anyone tell me what it means?

If the low brake fluid warning light is on, and there are no leaks. It means brake pads and rotors are worn. The missing fluid stays in the calipers until pads are replaced. Adding fluid ignores the "real" problem.

That should be the symbol that indicates that the external temerature is cold enough to freeze, just a cute little heads up to make you think about driving a little more cautiously... Hope this helps...

According to your description I believe this is a "Lamp out" warning. More details: http://www.aa1car.com/library/warning_lights.htm
Best of luck!

If it's round with a line down the middle, then it's a fault in brake system warning. You should check your brake fluid level.

My two far right indicator lights have been coming on. one looks like a temperature gauge dipped in water and the other looks like a battery with a symbol in the middle.

The battery shaped one indicates that the battery isn't being properly charged by the alternator and the voltage is getting low. The thermometer shaped one indicates that the engine is overheating when it is illuminated. Since both are coming on at about the same time and both the alternator and water pump are belt driven I would start by having the serpentine drive belt and pulleys checked to make sure they are in good condition and capable of driving both items. The coolant level and battery should also be checked at the same time. These engines don't tolerate being overheated so don't continue to drive it with the high temp warning light on or you could severly damage the engine.

OK, It means you have a light bulb out.
Sadly, it doesn't tell you which one though. It maybe a tail, turn, brake, backup, or headlight.
You'll need someone to look around as you run through the lights in the car.
