Brake wire to brake lights ? or wire to brake switch?
alternator sounds like a possible broken wire in the charging circuit.

it seems you have a short in either one of the lights or interlock. all are connected to the same fuse. trace the wiring from the fuse box back to the component. Using a test light test in between the wires. check for any obvious breaks in the wiring.

SOURCE: alternator is not charging the

new alternators (probably a remanufactured unit) can be defective, or check the installation and make certain that all connections are installed properly and are tight. There is a large post on the back of the alternator, with the engine idling, check the voltage coming from that post-it should read at least 14 volts, anything less points to a defective alternator. Check the voltage at the battery terminals as well, it should be virtually identical to the output of the alternator, if not you have a bad connection at the battery or a defect in the wiring going from the alternator to the battery. Your ground cable from the battery to the car engine/frame should also be checked for a tight, clean connection.

What would cause the vehicle to keep depleting batteries?

Sounds like you alternator might not be charging. If you can charge the battery and get the vehicle to a parts store, like an Oreilly's or Pep Boys, they will be able to test your charging system and determine your problem.

I've been having a problem with my 2000

No.dont diconnect the negative or positive battery at all The alternator only produces 2 volts above battery voltage so a total of 14 volts. If you dont have a volt meter get a small screw driver be careful doing this if you can safely access the back of the alternator (without shorting anything out)in the midddle of the alternator will be magnetic. That will tell you its charging or better yet get a compass and put it at the battery positive terminal and it will swing that tell you its charging. You disconnect the negative the whole car shuts off you disconnect the positive the car stay running but produces high voltage and can damage the alternator itself

Why won't my car start after the temperature drop

Either your battery is old do not carry charge from the alternator. Or the charge is leaked from your batter due to door or some light is open. Check basic doors and other stuff closed.

Check charging system message and battery light on

Is the belt on? Check voltage at the battery with car off. Should be around 12 volts. Now start the car and check the voltage it should have gone up to at least 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts. If is does not either belt is bad, alternator is bad, or the alternator is not getting entergized from the key switch.

Why won't my car start without getting a jump? Once I get it jumped it runs really good but when I turn it off and try to start it again, it won't start. I have a new battery and a new alternator...

Buy yourself a volt meter and check the batter voltage before and after it starts. You should read 12 volts before starting and around 14 volts once it starts and the alternator is charging the battery. Also check for loose connections between the alternator and battery. Check that the ground wire from the battery is secured to the vehicles frame. Good luck!

After charging my dead battery it will only run for a second or two then dies.

Perhaps the batter is "dead" dead and has met the end of it's functional life. You see, lead batteries like car batteries convert lead ions in solution into a solid as energy by chemical reaction. Charging the batter reverses the process, but the process becomes less and less reverseable as the age of the batter increases. When the process can no longer be efficiently reversed by "charging", the battery remains in it's dead, or semi-dead state, where it might run for only a few seconds.

Also, your alternator might be shot because technically, if you can start your engine, the alternator should provide the power to remain on; the battery serves only the purpose of starting the car and receiving the charge from the alternator to power the rest of the car's electronics.

Test both the battery and alternator, no more than $100-$150 to fix either problem.

Hope that helps!

Charging stystem seems to be working..... But when ever the miss's gets inthe car to go to work, she will get 10 miles and the battery light will start flashing, then get solid and she will lose the head...

When this happens, are the gauges dropping or not working properly or at all? Check the alternator. May not be charging so everything is running off the battery. The battery is used mostly for starting, but the alternator recharges the battery, so if after driving for a short while, and alternator not charging, everything electrical will drain the battery. You can sometimes drive the car for a while when this happens, or if the alternator goes out completely, the car will not run at all.
