Re: in dash heating/air unit -
First check the fuse for the heater A/C then check the blower motor relay it is a silver unit mounted right on the heater unit by the blower motor, then check the blower motor resistors mounted on the outside near the heater core if they all checks ok i woud pull the control unit out and check the mail wires that were plugged in to see if there is current battery voltage should be present atleast on two of them then i would check if the black wire is a good ground!!!.

there is a flapper door that is controled by a little servo motor under the dash that controls the mixture between hot and cold depending on where u have the control set. sometimes when that stuff goes out you may hear a thumping sound under the dash... problem could be in temp control switch, the air mixture control door motor,,, if not......heater core could be stopped up or bypassed underhood
I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix with a digital climate control system.
The heat quit working, it doesn't blow out any heat. Now that it is warm
outside the air stopped blowing out any air. The digital temperature on
the climate control is not correct. When it states that it is below 30
degrees on the ext and it is warm outside the air wont be cold. Once it
starts going above 30 degrees the air gets colder. Today the blower stop
working all together. Was told it maybe the climate control unit was
bad. You can hear the door opening/shutting when you switch the temp
from cold to hot. But there was no heat blowing out whatsoever in the
winter time. Could you please give me your opinion on whether or not it
is the climate control unit or something else?
For AIR and HEAT to stop working Im assuming you mean the fan stopped blowing air. The beetle has three turn knobs in the dash. Left is for temperature control, center is fan control, and right is vent selection. The center button on this years model is famous for shorting out causing the fan to not blow. the other two controls are cable actuated. Unfotunately once you remove the cover the control knobs are all part of one single unit. and the whole unit must be replaced. Its a job that is doable by the home mechanic with the BENTLEY manual for this car. Other manuals are not able to show all steps. You can get the BENTLEY manual on ebay for about 80 dollars US. Its a wise investment. Then you can search ebay or local parts yards for the part. I paid 45 for mine, but dealer wanted over 400 dollars US for just the part. Took me 2 hours to install with manual.
you need to replace the climate control unit in the dash. you can buy them on ebay for about $50. easy to replace. 1, apply emergency brake. 2, carefully pull off bezel surrounding radio, vents & climate control. 3, remove 7mm screws fastening climate control unit to dash. 4, carefully pull unit from dash, (you may have to move shifter out of park) 5,pull plastic tube from the rear of unit and squeeze and pull electrical connector to remove. 6, install new one in reverse order
the air blend door inside the heating / cooling unit that sits under the dash is probably not moving. there is an electric motor and control unit that moves the air blend door (assuming you have the electric dial or push button digital controls. some of these vehicles have a valve that shuts off the antifreeze from cycling through the heater and if it remains open then you would get "not hot" but just warm air.
warm air come out on the passager side you got dual heating control the motor that control the hot and cold is stuck that hapen when the car sit there a long time or the setting dont move if it passager side under the dash you got the heater box about 3/4 down you got a square electric motor start the car gently tap the motor with anything you got most of the time it gonna start moving play with the heater control to see it move good luck pierre
