Not sure what repair was done to cause you to need to reset it and it it much easier with the proper computer and software but it can be done "manually". Make sure your battery has a full charge on it. Use a scan tool if able to to clear any trouble codes (DTC's). Turn the key to the "off" position and then turn to the "crank" position as if trying to start the vehicle which may start but will stall. LEAVE the key to the "on" position at this point. Now this next step can take 10 or 15 minutes but while the key is in the "on" position watch the security light indicator. When the security indicator light turns off, turn the key to the "off" position and wait 10 seconds. On the next start the body control module as well as the powertrain control module (PCM) will learn the new new code when the vehicle is started. This IS the procedure and if this doesn't work you may have other problems. Normally this should only need to be done if the passlock sensor, instrument cluster or the PCM has been replaced. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1996 Pontiac Grand AM V6 Anti-Theft Activated

Had similar problem that is a seemingly impossible to bypass (tried 1500 ohm resistor and still could not match the electrical current in the anti-thefy system) so standard pice wont work. But if u swich the whole lock cylinder from another grand am it should work becuase it has the same electrical current is flowing wich needs to be active at all times for the car not to shut off right away (there is no chip in the key at all)

This happened to me as well - always at the most inopportune time. When you get this, turn the ignition off, then turn to on (do not start). Let it sit there for about 10 minutes. Once the security light quits blinking you are good to go.

SOURCE: Anti-theft code 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix

DO a google search for Radio lock codes with you make model vehicle,, for 7$ you can get it,,here is what I found for a 2000 gp..
1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 7 seconds until you get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 digits you will need, so write them down.

2. Press the AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you will need. You only have 5 seconds to do this. If you wait too long before pressing the AM/FM button, the display will go back to LOC. If this is the case, just start over at step 1.

3. Call 1-800-537-5140, press 2 for Pontiac, press 620529 and hit the # key. The computerized voice will ask you for your 6 digit code you have written down. Enter that and press the * key. He will then give you your unlock code, and the option to get additional codes. The first one worked for me so do not worry about the additional ones.

4. Set the code into your radio by pressing the hour set button on your radio until it corresponds with the first 2 digits of your code, then press the minute set button until the last 2 digits of your code are entered. Immediately press the AM/FM button once the correct code is entered and the code SEC or "secured" will be displayed. This part of the procedure is outlined in your owners manual.

5. If you want, you can change your code so you will not forget it, or get rid of the theftlock all together. These procedures are outlined in your owners manual, read it if you would like to change these values.

6. turn on the power to your radio and enjoy.

Hints:

- The first 3 and the last 3 digits were the same on my radio. (for example first 3 were 123 and last 3 were 123) First I thought I was doing something wrong when the display wasn't changing, but I wasn't. Just to let you know it is a possibility.

- The dealer code 620529 is an actual dealer. If GM finds out that this code was leaked to the public, they will remove it from their system. If the dealer code does not work when you phone the 1-800 number, you can search for a new dealer code on the internet somewhere. If this does happen, PM me and I will try to find one that works for you.

SOURCE: anti theft dash light is blinking on my 1998 rodeo

I'm assuming its an original alarm or system that came from factory or dealer. When the light blinks is because the alarm is activated. Look underneath the radio the alarm brain might be there. There will be a label on it saying alarm or security system etc. Disconnect the harness to it and try operating your vehicle.

The first thing is to reset it. Is the antitheft light on?

Or you call an auto electrician

Turn the key to the on position for 10 minutes then turn off, repeat 2 more times. the system should reset. Mine usually resets on the second time, if the security light stops flashing then i try to start. My mechanic told me it takes three times to reset but it never has on my car, good luck.

I have a 1998 pontiac grand am se and the theft light is on it will not start or even crank over watched many videos on youtube and even googled it. I have tried many things like turning key over for 10...

Pull the fuse for the anti theft or you’re going to have to replace the ignition lock cylinder. There’s a sensor inside of it called a pass-lock sensor that is most likely faulty. It’s a known issue that was never addressed by the manufacturer. Pull the alarm or anti theft fuse if you’re looking to be thrifty.

How do I reset the anti theft system on a 2004 Pontiac grand prix

Its sounds like the anti theft system has failed. This is very common in GM cars. This has happened to me so I know your frustration. There is a site that has a lot of information on how to bypass/ permanently fix it. You can actually do it yourself for far less then what a mechanic would charge. Hope this helps!

This keeps sending me in circles....how do I get an answer??? Code for 1998 Pontiac Grand Am...vin # 1G2NW12T8WC752588...5 speed, manual transmission, stick on the floor. Need Anti-Theft code to enter

There is no code to enter. Turn your ignition to the run position for about 10 minutes. This programs the anti-theft module to the key. If this doesn't help, you have a problem with the anti-theft components, and probably should take it to a professional to diagnose and repair.
