Question about 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
When you start the truck sometimes it is in 4WH, 4WL, Auto, 2WD, Sometimes it says is even in neutral. If you put the car in neutral and push the button it will usually go into 2WD sometimes you have to keep turning it off until it resets itself. I have been told the encoder motor needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: 95 Blazer 4X4 Problem
Ok I just got my 4x4 working again. I got it to work by taking out the 4wd, brake, and I believe the ctsy fuses for about one minute each and put them back in and now my 4x4 works like it used to. If that works for anyone else great, but if not then good luck finding a better solution to the 4x4 problem.

we had same problem,it was caused by shifting trans selector to quick after startup, not waiting for electronics to cycle on initial startup.

Ok, I fixed it. I just reset the computer by taking the pos and neg cables off the battery and after 15 secs touching the two together. Now everything works fine.
