SOURCE: what is the timing marks for a 2000 kia sportage?

the timing marks are as follows... if you are not able to see the picture the intake cam gear will line up with the mating mark on the rear cover .... the "I" needs to be straight up... the exhaust cam the E needs to be straight up. the crankshaft mark is a nothch in the rear of the crank gear which needs to line up with a pointer on the front of the aluminum oil pump housing. the keyway on the crank needs to be vertical. the marks on the rear cover are dimples in the cover. this is an interferance engine DO NOT ROTATE CRANK OR CAMS WITH BELT OFF. IF YOU HAVE BROKEN THE TIMING BELT DAMAGE TO ENGINE HAS ALREADY OCCURED AND YOU WILL NEED A VALVE JOB!!!! there is no exception on this engine. if you have tried to crank it over and the belt is broken the head is no good!

SOURCE: Timing belt posision

1. Take all frontal pieces off, inculding fan, fan pully bracket, all belts ( A/C, power steering, and alternator ), thermostat housing and and hoses, fan shroud, then crank pully ( 6 - 10MM bolts around a large 21MM center bolt, dont worry about the center bolt, the pully will come off after removing the 6 outer bolts ) then the belt covers, both top and bottom. 2. Once you have access to the belt and with the crank pully removed you will see a small woodruff key on the nub shaft that protrudes from the crank cog. Align that to a 12 o' clock position. This key is what fits in the notch on the crank pully, ignore the small square marking on one of the cog teeth, it is useless. 3. After aligning the woodruff key to the 12 o' clock position make sure your intake came ( left side cam ) is aligned properly, you will know this when you see the "I" on the cog in the twelve o' clock position and aligned with a small marking or "dent" that sits immediately above the cog on the belt backing plate. If it is not aligned there turn the crank another 180 degrees and it should be. 4. Check your exhaust cam the same way as step 3. 5. Now with everything aligned loosen the tensioner nut and pry it to the left with a small crowbar or long screw driver or something elongated. When the tensioner pully is pushed as far as it will go to the left, tighten the nut. This will make it much easier to get the belt off and on. 5. Take the belt off, you may have to work it off with a screw driver or it may simply come off by hand if it is worn well enough. Dont be alarmed if your cams move or snap out of position, it is not a big deal as long as you make sure the crank cog stays put and the engine isnt turned over. 6. Now comes the slightly tougher part, if you got lucky your cams will not have moved, if not then you will have to fiddle around with their alignment and have someone hold them aligned with two 17MM wrenches or something while you reinstall the belt. 7. After installing the belt make sure your alignment marks are set, the "I" on the intake ( left cam ) at 12 o' clock and facing the small dent on the timing cover backing plate and the "E" on the exhaust ( right cam ) aligned the same way as well and your crank cog marking ( woodruff key ) aligned to 12 o' clock and facing the small notch on the front of the block immediately behind the crank cog. There is also, most times, a small plate on the back of the crank cog that has a beveled notch in it and should be aligned with the woodruff pin, the two parts ( cog and plate ) are one part and move together so if you align the woodruff key at 12 o' clock, the notch should be aligned as well. Now might be a good time to disconnect your battery to allow the cam sensor to reset, it may not be necessary but its better safe than sorry. 8. With all the cogs aligned loosen the tensioner bolt and let it slide back to put tension on the new belt, you may wish to place a small pry bar behind the tensioner to move it to the right a bit and make sure it has tightened the belt securely. Once the tensioner has been moved and the belt securely tight, tighten the bolt once again to hold the tensioner. 9. Turn the engine over a few times using a ratchet and 21 MM socket on the end of the crank cog, making sure to stop the crank after every second revolution and when the woodruff key is aligned at the twelve o' clock position. Then check your markings, making sure they are still aligned, if not, refer back to step 6. 10. After you have made absolutely sure everything is aligned properly, turn the crank until the "E" on the exhaust cam ( right cam ) is aligned at the 12 o' clock position and aligned with the small dent on the belt backing plate. Then turn the engine clockwise until the "S" on the exhaust cog is facing that same dent on the backing plate. 11. Now you may plug all of your water passages and hoses, reconnect your battery, and though it is not advised but sometimes necessary, start the engine. Do not let it run long however, just long enough to make sure everything is running smoothly. If all is well, shut the engine down and make sure the belt is on the pulleys securely and that everything is still aligned as said in step 9, if not, refer back to step 6. 12. Now that everything is running well you may reverse the procedure and put everything back together. After reinstalling everything and starting the engine you may notice a tapping under the valve cover, do not be alarmed however, that is just lifter bleed down from the cams being turned over with no oil pressure. Simply drive the vehicle a few miles and it will eventually go away. I hope this relieves the pressure on some of you that are trying to find the right way to do this, I have done it this way and I know it works, plus i have the schematics. If you have any questions feel free to post on this topic and ask away, I should be able to answer everything you need. would not perform step 11 and if everything is properly aligned it is not necessary anyway. Simply perform step 9 with manual rotation of the engine. This is all the shop manual recommends

  1. Align marks on camshaft pulleys with alignment marks on seal plate.
  2. Install timing belt. NOTE: No looseness should exist on the tension side and at the camshaft pulleys.
  3. Loosen tensioner lock bolt.
  4. Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions in direction of rotation and check that timing marks are still in alignment.
  5. Tighten timing belt tension lock bolt to 27-38 ft lb (32-52 Nm).
  6. Apply a force of 22 lbs to timing belt between camshaft sprockets.
  7. Belt deflection should measure 0.30-0.33 in (7.5-8.5 mm)
  8. NOTE: Replace tensioner spring if timing belt deflection is excessive.

  1. Install lower timing belt cover.
  2. Install upper timing belt cover.
  3. Install power steering drive belt and adjust belt tension.
  4. Install fan pulley.
  5. Install generator drive belt and adjust belt tension.
  6. Install A/C drive belt and adjust belt tension.
  7. Install splash guard.
  8. Install fan and fan shroud.
  9. Install 4 fan bolts. Tighten to 24 ft lb (33 Nm).
  10. Install fan shroud mounting bolts.
  11. Install fresh air duct.
  12. Connect hose to resonance chamber.
  13. Connect battery negative cable.

SOURCE: how to set timing marks when changing the timing

There is a DOHC or SOHC (double or Single overhead cam engone. Both are Similar. Both have a notch on back side of crank pully that aligns with a tab on engine just above crank pully looks like a triangle with the tip near crank pully is rounded off. SOHC engines have an arrow on cam pully that aligns with a point at top of timing belt rear housing. about straight up at top of it. DOHC have an I and an E on the cam pullys I for INTAKE and E for EXHAUST. the I and E match up at same type points on top of rear Timing belt housing. When installing belt make sure you do not move pullys. put belt on starting with cam shaft (s) then down to crank on tension side which looking at motor will be the right side or Clockwise direction keeping it tight no, or EXTREEMLY little slack. then back up around tensioner. Tensioner should be the last pully to go around. Once on make sure timing marks still lline up.Adjust tensioner and. rotate engine BY HAND 4 times and re check marks.

How do i remove the fuel delivery and return connectors at the engine


go by the auto parts store, buy fuel line disconnect tools.you take the fuel line disconnect tool, place it on fuel line push tool in the fuel line connector to seperate fuel lines.make sure when you get ready reconnect fuel lines back together you should hear fuel line snap back in place.make sure fuel line in place dont come apart. to be on safe side dont crank car first just turn ignition to the on position for few seconds check for fuel leaks.

How do i drop the fuel tank to replace my fuel pump on my 2006 chevy trailblazer LS. There are 3 lines that I don't know what they are used for after you drop the tank 4 or 5 inches.


their are two fuel line at the front of the tank one is the fuel feed and the other is the return line! Now the ones at the back of the tank are for emission you don't want to break or damage those make sure you disconnect all of those line and the is a red connector also at the rear of the top of the tank make sure you disconnect that. And just make sure careful when remove fuel pump it has a tight fit coming out also when your done make sure all your hoses and lines are reconnected and the red ont too! GOOD LUCK !

How do you line up all 4 cam marks on 2006 kia sorento 3.5 liter engine


Heres a diagram for your 2006 kia, this will show you the line up marks on all the gears, cams and crank, make sure after you line them up and install the belt you use a wrench and turn the crank bolt by hand two revaloutions and make sure the marks line up, other wise you could damage the engine if they dont line up, this is a could test to make sure they line back up, good day,johnjohn2_125.gif

Drivers window tips fourwerd and has bent the regulater arm again it was new and the motor is new so what is wronge


you do not tell me enough,take me back .are you sure this is the right regulater.it sounds as if the front regulater is not in position.drop the regulator down to the line up stage loosen and line it up then make sure it is lined up once your are sure tighten the two nuts.easly.you should get this set up with dropping the window down two a positionw where the two nuts are in line,oncn you are happy let the window rise until it goes in to position dont tighten until you are sure.when happy tighten,adrian,,,

My transmission line is leaking (2002) Trailblazer. Is there a way to patch it without changing out the whole line?


If it is in a spot where you can easily work on it, then you can cut the line and put in a compression fitting. The line needs to be relatively rust free for it to work properly. Cut the line and clean up the ends, slide the nut on first and then the ferrule and tighten.
If the line is too rusty to do this then you can replace it with a piece of steel brake line. Make sure it is the same diameter and length or a little longer. Also make sure the ends are the same, some are double flared and some are ballon flared. You need to know for sure because they can't be interchanged. Brake line won't come with the right ends to screw on but you should be able to get brass fittings the fix you up.
If you don't want to replace the whole line get a short piece of brake line that will span to 2 good sections of your current line but you will probably have to double flare your current line ends so the unions will go on. There aren't any fittings that have a compression fitting on 1 end and a union on the other.

Gas is not getting from gas tank to Carburator .. 1987/88 Wrangler 42. engine was recently rebuilt .. gas tank sending unit was removed and repaired .. fuel line was blown out with air compressor. fuel...


Make sure you have the lines attached correctly on the sending unit and make sure there no small holes in the line. The pump pulls fuel and will draw in air. To make sure the pump is good, attach the tank side to a container of fuel and see if the engine starts. (keep the container below the pump or it can start a siphon and appear to be OK when it's not)
If the repair to the sender involved soldering up a line leak, make sure the line is not still leaking and that the line has not filled with solder.
It's a really simple system...there are no "trick" items there. If everything is intact and the pump is good, it has to work!!!

How to replace the fuel filter on a honda accod 1997


You can find this underhood on driver side's below brake master cylinder. You will need a new fuel filter part # 16010-st5-933

tools needed: 10mm, 17mm sockets, 17 mm wrench, 3/8 drive short + long extension,rachet, 3/8 drive 14mm crow foot , 14mm short line wrench

this is a bit trickier to replace but it is simple..some people do the whole job from the top, that is when you will use the 14mm short line wrench,,personally i have found it a lot easier to loosen up the lower fuel line from the bottom ,,, Anyho ....

# 1 remove gas cap, to relieve fuel line pressure

# 2 raise the car up and with the long extension , 14mm crow foot , loosen the fuel line at bottom of filter DO NOT totally undo the line at this time or you will get fuel soaked,, put a pan under car so fuel can go there instead of on the floor once you totally undo the line

# 3 remove the 17mm nut at the fuel rail,( top end of fuel hose going to filter ) do not loose the aluminum washer you need to reuse it

# 3.5 remove the 17mm bolt for the fuel hose at fuel filter,remove the hose

# 4 totally undo the lower fuel line but undo it from the top ( engine compartment)

# 5 remove the 10mm fuel filter bracket bolt,, remove the assembly . you might have to play with it a bit but it will slide up by the master cylinder

# 6 once out, remove the 10mm bolt that hold the filter in the bracket., install new filter, make sure to line it up on the slot

# 7 if you look at the body where filter bracket mounts, there is an opening , below where the mounting bolt is, make sure to install the lower bracket nipple inside that hole,

# 8 before you install the 10mm bracket bolt, start the lower fuel line , from the top , make sure to turn the nut a few turn to make sure it is not cross threaded. once line is started ok, mount the bracket on the body tighten the 10mm bolt,,

# 9 tightem the lower fuel line ,,

# 10 install the upper hose, make sure to use new aluminum gaskets, put gas cap back on

Start the car and make sure there are no fuel leaks

Fuel line


I would recommend taking it to a shop. They are not that hard to replace. But remember you are messing with fuel and hot parts that you want to make sure the lines are properly connected
