98 jeep grand cherokee all time 4 wheel drive

Front drive axle has two U joints, and in between the U joints
is a kind of coupler joint that looks like it had bearings in it, I
had another vehicle with 4 wheel drive and it had something
like this and it was called a constant velocity joint, would this
be along the same lines and where would I find info on
repairing it. thank you very much for any help

If yours has a cv joint at the front end and a double u joint at the back end the manual states the entire shaft has to be replaced. The other solution is to have a drive line service company make one for it with a u jooint and slip yoke at the front end and replace the yhe axle housing.

Was told drive shaft was worn out needs rebuilt or new any 1 here of this

Rebuilding them consists of new U joints and maybe balanced. If it was so loose the the u joints wallowed out the keepers, Then yes, they would also need replaced. Cut off and welded on. That isn't a common problem, but I have had to replace a few. Not just on jeeps.

Just bought a 94 jeep grand Cherokee all wheel drive and it is making a loud noise and wanders all over the road . what can the problem be

yes the tire size is very important! however assuming everything is the correct equipment the wandering problem is likely the u-joints in the front axles binding. If this is the case the front axle u-joints need to be replaced. This is very common on 4x4 vehicles with solid front axles. Good luck!

1996 grand cherokee-6cyl When making tight turns,

Hi, the likely problem is a worn out CV joint on one of your axles. Check for a torn boot on either axle. Once a toot tears open, dirt gets in and wears out the joint. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

My 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a hole in the rubber boot protecting the cv joint on the passenger side front axle, how do I fix it?

BEst way to due the job is to just replace the front axle, this assures you that there is not sand or any other forein material that could cause any issues with your axles. Especially if this is a 4 wheel drive.

98 Grand Cherokee severly jolts in turns.

Generally, changing the boot over the joint is already too late to make a difference. The boot keeps out road contamination which will quickly cause the joint to fail. Putting in new grease and changing the boot will not repair the joint.

Grinding noises when 4x4 is engaged

Most likely wheel bearing or cv joint issue. look for a ripped open cv boot. I believe that year used cv joints instead of regular u-joints. Hope I helped. Thanks

Noise from front

Is it full time or part time 4 wheel drive? You should check the front driveshaft u-joints.

Makes a loud popping sound when turning or accerlerating

CHECK YOUR U-JOINTS ON THE HALF SHAFTS BETWEEN THE KNUCKLE AND AXLE HOUSING HIGHER MILEAGE DANA 30 AXLE ESPECIALLY WITH FULL TIME FOUR WHEEL DRIVE THESE JOINTS WILL RUST OUT OR WEAR OVER TIME OVER TIME. IF THEY A IN GOOD ORDER CHECK UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS DO THIS BY JACKING UP FRONT AXLE (USE JACK STANDS) GRASP BOTH TOP AND BOTTOM OF WHEEL AND ROCK BACK AND FORTH IF THE IS EXTREME PLAY IN WHEEL YOU NEED BALL JOINTS. ALSO CHECK LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS THESE WEAR OUT WITH HIGH MILEAGE
