SOURCE: Cylinder 1 and 4 misfire on my 1997 Ford Explorer

The code description is a giveaway.
It could be one of the coils on the coil pack. Most coils nowadays do two cylinders each. This way car makers can get away with one coil for two cylinders.(lowers costs) One spark fires the air fuel mix in one of the cylinders and the other will fire the cylinder on the exhaust stroke. If the coils are removable, and you are fairly handy with cars, switch two around, the problem will follow the bad coil.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford Explorer--65k miles..service engine soon

get the code to determine what system is at fault. If you already did and it directed you to the gas cap then thats about all you can do other than look at the engine and air box for any vacuum hoses that may of been left off.

What should I do for a tune up on a 2004 ford exployer

Since the spark plugs use a "coil pack" on top of them, there is no distributor or parts to replace. About the only tune-up parts you can change are the spark plugs, fuel and air filter.

Looking for a list of parts that need to be changed out on a 2006 ford five hudred for a tune-up

With the advent of platinum tipped spark plugs and distributorless ignition a tune-up doesn't consist of much. Air filters (engine and cabin if equipped) should be replaced at 30k mile intervals (more frequent if in dusty climates). Spark plugs and PCV valve should be replaced at 100k mile intervals. The fuel filter is built inside the tank and is designed to last the life of the vehicle.

So basically if your at 100k miles you should replace the air filters, pcv valve, spark plugs and wires(if equipped). That is the extent of a "tune-up" now a days.

Tune Up

At 100,000 change the spark plugs, at 30,000 the air filter, at 60,000 the fuel filter.

Alot of time when you run a fuel injector cleaner or just give it a basic tune up will fix this problem it usually means that there isnt enough gas getting to the pistons....
