SOURCE: how do i reach the rear spark plugs on the 24v 3.0L 1999 Mercury Sable

I recently did a tuneup on my 88 sable, and the back spark plugs were a pain to get to. However, it didn't require any special procedures. You may want to try getting a SMALL ratchet extension to avoid jamming your wrench into the firewall, because without one you won't be able to get far enough into the spark plug seat and a normal sized extension will prevent you from getting in at all. You could also try an appropriately sized deep socket (sorry I can't remember what size the plugs are) and use that instead of a spark plug socket. Just try to use the spark plug socket to put the new ones in, or you may damage the connectors using a normal socket.

Plugs and wires 2005 mercury sable

What engine do you have, I will assume a DOHC V6, the DOHC V6 doesn't have spark plug wires, each spark plug (located under the igntion coil) has its own separate ignition coil, it is called direct ignition. You unbolt the coil and remove it with the attached spark plug boot and then you remove the spark plug from the cylinder and replace, do one at a time.

All Mercuries in 2001 were shipped with a label affixed to the inside of the engine compartment, listing FIRING ORDER, spark plug gap, and vacuum routing. Find the label, and there's your answer! :)

Does a 1996 mercury sable and 2001 ford taurus have the same engine

Its possible. In this time span Ford used two different motors, the overhead valve (OHV) Vulcan V6, and the Duratec 24V V6, which will bear the 24v DOHC badge on the front fender.

I assume you have the 24v engine...you must remove the the plentium(sic) to get at the rear plugs. This means removing the air filter line and also the throttle body.

yes about the upper intake and the only way i know how to check the coils is with a engine anilyser or if the check engine light comes on then you can have the codes pulled and that will tell you which cylender is missfiring this engine has a indevidual coil for each spark plug so thares 6 of them and thay slide right down over the sparkplugs
