Question about Cars & Trucks
I have a heavy gas smell inside the cab of my 1972 Chevy Truck. How do I trouble shoot this?
Gday mate, geoff here, ok she's an oldy but i bet she's a treat to drive, 1t check the fuel vent, making sure the one at the fuel cap is clear, also check for minute little pin holes where fuel pipe to engine is held to chassis, these are old and my have worn though, the rubbers at this age are due for replacement,ie the fuel tank filler to cap assembly, start there and go through the system, Without missing a hose , and no she looks OK here, check them thoroughly, fuel vapour is cause for explosion, hope this helps start the process, geoff.

the small radiator just inside the cab, where the hoses go to the heater is leaking. You may try using stop leak (many don't recommend this) or take off the heater radiator. it will probably get worse when you turn on the heater and fog up the windshield if not fixed. hope this helps.

This is definitely a heater core issue, but I might also suggest one of the many over the counter cures first before replacing it, the heater core is not a very expensive part but quite a chore to replace.

hello drk...the only time you smell this is when the engine is under a load? Does is seem to be coming from the a/c vents? Any smoke? I've never heard this complaint on the 2005 6.0 powerstroke. A strong coolant or sulphur smell is what most owners report. Could you give a little more detail please?
