We do not have a picture, but it takes a special socket to remove it, any auto part store will have these special oil pressure sending unit sockets, they come in regular and deep well.

My 406 shows me oil pressure insufficient, what are the problem?

wrong grade of oil , low oil level, hydraulic tappets worn out big end or main bearings worn, problem oil pump, oil pressure sender unit
first step is to have the oil pressure read with a mechanical gauge and if that proves to be within specifications then replace the oil sender unit

3800. Where is the oil pressure sending unit located?

I'm not familiar with your vehicle. However, an oil pressure sender unit is usually located on the block, below the cylinder head.

it's more often than not a screw - in unit which may have a brass appearance and have 1 or more electrical wires coming from it.

Here is a link which will show you generic images of sender units:

They are -usually - just screw-in items. They are not difficult to change.

In warmer times of year the oil pressure drops enough to illuminate the checks gauges lite. I changed oil and installed a heavier weight oil but still same problem. Was wondering if sending unit could be...

oil pump is good evidence of wear and age on engine. older engine with high mileage has lower pressure. in two years your vehicle will be an antique.

maybe you should consider looking around for a rebuild engine swap. another used engine will be itself so old that it needs rebuilding.

oil sender is cheap and easy to replace, but your story sounds like it is working fine.

My 1996 audi A6 has an oil sending unit problem...can you tell me what that might take to fix and why would this show leaking oil? I thought this part was inside the oil pan?

The oil pressure sender unit is located on the oil filter housing. These do tend to leak at times. The warning light for this switch is a red oil can and a buzzer. Replace the switch. If warning light still comes on, have the oil pressure checked. The oil level sender warning light is an orange oil can with oil level under it. This sender is fitted on the bottom of the oil sump and can leak past the seal. If warning light comes on, check oil level. If ok, check for damage to wiring under vehicle. Senders do some times become faulty.

Mate .2 things. The oil pressure sending unit is playing up or its not.The other is how long since an oil /filter change. If you know the oil is ok ,get the sender unit fixed.Oil is a lot cheaper than metal if things are not right. If it happens all of a sudden, the sender unit may be at fault.Hope this helps

How do you change an oil pressure sensor?

I've never seen an oil pressure sender mounted to the oil pan. I would guess that's an oil level indicator. The oil pressure sender has to be mounted somewhere on the discharge side of the pump. search 'oil galley' on wikipedia, that may help you understand. It's usually directly screwed into the block, and near the top. it you do find it, it will have one wire. short that wire to ground. If the Gage goes all the way up, the Gage is OK. Good luck! Oil level sender

Does it go off after the car is started? If not, replace the oil sending unit, if it still doesn't go off, have the oil pump checked, the pressure release valve might be stuck.
