Most Bigger Autoparts stores will scan it for codes free of charge. Have that done first to pinpoint trouble better. If they can't steer you in right direction from there, get back to us with code(s) and we can better advise you. Cheaper & Faster that way, rather than replace items by guessing.

the pedal will go to the floor when there is a leak in the brake system or air is in the system due to lack of proper bleeding, when a major component is replaced; caliper, master cylinder etc. if the reservoir is low you have a leak. if no apparent fluid is visible, it may leaking into the master cylinder.

SOURCE: start but it won't idle.
check and clean idle air control it may be sticking or bad. it regulates the idle of the vehicle. if you need help finding it, or to clean it, go to any auto parts store and they should be able to help. auto-zone etc.

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.
When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon or small picture of an engine) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible system faults (the gas cap is just one of them) that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen/Oriley and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.
