Question about 1996 Nissan Pathfinder
You probably have something that is staying on and draining the battery. You need to have an "ignition off draw" test done.

check all connections, check timing, the starter can be rebuilt cheaper at a automotive electric repair facility

Testimonial: "Thanks a million for the response. It was the starter solenoid as you probably expected...but had to buy starter too as they are not sold separately."
Check your battery for a full charge. You can do this by turning on the headlight and seeing if they are bright. If not then charge your battery. If so then you probably have the solenoid on the starter going out and will need to have the starter / solenoid assembly replaced.
Hope this helps!
