Motor turns over. when air fitler line removed spray ether starts and then dies. whats wrong but fuel pump is not bad

As with all injected Fords, inertia switch could be tripped if something bumped into car. Seen this trip after dropping vehicle to the floor on a floor jack too. If the inertia swith isnot it, feel free to get back to me and we'll do some furthur exploring. Mitchell claims that the fuel pump inertia swith is located on the right(passenger) side of the transmission hump, under the carpet, on the toe board. If you don't find it there, check the owner's manual. There is a red button on the side of the switch, that will click audibly when pushed, if the switch was indeed tripped.

Earl You have to be able to bleed all of the air out of the fuel filter and lines for your engine to run. If the fuel is leaking back to the tank there is a problem with the valves in the hand primer pump.You might have to replace the pump. Remove or loosen the bleed screw on the top of the filter and pump out all of the air so there is no more bubbles then loosen the fuel lines at the injectors and turn the engine over with the starter to bleed the lines. Only crank over with the starter for 30 seconds per try and give the starter time to cool down

I have a 92 ford f250 with the 7.3 idi rolls over and over dont want to start till I spray some ether into it after it starts it will run for a little bit then it will die I have no idea what's wrong with...

Seems like a fuel problem. Is there water or dirt in the fuel? Is there a crack in one of the fuel lines? Is the pump good? Is the fuel and air filter clean?

Ether to start cranks then shut off immediately

Have you checked base fuel pressure with a gauge yet ?
Sounds like the fuel pump may have finally died.

I have 2000 Chevy blazer 4.3 l v6 vortex I had the same problem I would spray starter fluid into the air flirted canester Nd it would start as soon as I stopped spraying the fluid the engine would die first I checked to make sure my gas pump was working in the gas tank second I checked my fuses under the hood and last the fuel pressure so my gas pump was on in the tank fuses were also ok but I had no pressure on the gas line so that ment my gas pump was bad I replaced it after replacing it my blazer fires problems free now

The car sat up for some time, but always started,drove, etc.., it has sat up now for about 2 months. if you put ether(?) in it , the car starts but once it evaporates it dies. will not start without...

Could be any number of things. Bad fuel pump, bad fuse, clogged gas line, leaking gas line, faulty electronics to the fuel pump, bad relay. There are a few ideas to start with.

I have a 1992 bmw 325i, how many fuel pumps does it have. My car starts and then it dies off and i was told by a friend that it might either be a fuel pump or a filter. How do i know which one it is?

you beemer has two fuel pumps but if its starting they should be fine. I would check for vacuum leaks.That being a hose some where is ether broken off or not on.Changing your fuel fitler id not a bad idea if you haven't done it.It is located in the engine compartment on the drivers side

How to repair gas pump

First thing to try and do is to pull the air intake hose off between the throttle body and the air cleaner box. Have someone try to turn it over while you are spraying ether into the throttle body with the flap open. If it starts and dies then you have a problem with it getting fuel. If this is the case then start by replacing the fuel filter (it is under the drivers side of the vehicle right around the door). When you do this you should see an aluminum line that is running to the fuel injector under the hood. Following that line you should see a black cap and under that cap is a pressure relief valve. Qhile someone is trying to start it push down on that to release any air in the fuel line from changing the filter out. When you see fuel come out release the valve and It should start right up. If not , after you release the valve spray some ether in the intake and when it starts put the gas until it stays running and then it should be good to go. To replace the pump you have to drop the gas tank.

if this is a 1980 F150, emissionwiz is correct in saying it has a carburetor, if your engine runs on ether, you do not have fuel supply to the engine. Check fuel delivery at the front of carburetor, should be a line screwed into the carb, may be connected by a rubber hose, remove this line and crank engine, look to see fuel is gushing out of the line, if no fuel the pump is bad, check fuel lines back to pump for leaks, replace leaking lines if necessary. If you get fuel then your float inside the carb is stuck, and the carb will need some attention, hope this helps, let me know

88 jeep cherokee turns over but won't start... as if its out of gas... its not!

Try spraying a little ether in the throttle body/carb and if it starts and runs for a little bit then dies then you have a fuel problem. Probably a pump or fitler. If you replace the pump also replace the filter. Note: if you are trying to start it with the ether in it and its not starting and you see a little fire keep turning it over to **** the fire into the engine, etherwise you will burn up your glaskets.
