1996 Peugeot 405 1.9TD with A/C problem: cooling fans are permanently on when ignition switched on and the temperature gauge is off the scale at the cold end. There are 3 sensors fitted around the fuel filter housing.
1, Brown 2 pin connection I believe is the bitron sensor thermistor measuring 1.78 K ohms across both pins at ambient temp approx 20 deg c
2, Blue 1 pin connection measuring 2.23k ohms between pin connection and earth at approx 20 deg c
3, Green 1 pin connection measuring open circuit to earth.

Checked the Bitron sensor thermistor wiring to Bitron control unit below the nearside headlight wiring checks out ok.

Do you know what the resistance value should be for these sensors and what they are used for?

The Air bag light on the dash board is also on, found the slip ring on the steering column to be faulty , repaired slip ring but the light stays on how is this turned off?

-   I have this problem... if I change the fuse (number 2) then the problem goes away until the fuse blows again.I associate the problem with a clicking sound behind the passenger glove box and the red led on the steering wheel flashing on & off, these two things stop when the fuse blows. Is it maybe a dodgy servo mounted behind the glove compartment?-   chriscj

-   The 405 cooling fans are controled by Bitron sensor. Haynes manual said so, but it did not show where the bitron sensor is and how it work.
I wonder what the 3 pins sensor at the coolant is used for.Does it connect to any Temp control unit?

Found a blown 5A fuse in the fusebox under the right side of the steering wheel (near driver-side door). Replaced this, and all symptoms appear to have gone... question is, what caused the fuse to blow in the first place?
