SOURCE: where do you charge a

Charge At he low side port, the low side is the large AC line, it may also me on the accumulator, that is a can like part near the firewall, the low side line goes to it from the AC compressor. Make sure you pull a vacuum on the system before you charge it, other wise it may not cool properly due to water vapor in the in the system.

Check the big red wire on the back of the alternator for power. The wire likes to get corroded in half inside the casing but is still held together BY the casing. you can even take a jumper cable from the positive side of the battery to the big/single wire on the back of the alternator. Now , you could have a bad ground also. take a voltmeter or test light and with the ground of the tester on the ground of the battery check for power on the case of the alternator. Another thing , does the alternator or charge light on the dash light up woth the key off? the alternator knows to "start-up" or "field-up" by the power it recieves through the bulb before the engine is started. once the engine starts the small brown wire on the alternator goes hot and shuts the light on the dash off cause it now has power on both legs of it. if the bulb blows then the alternator won't field-up. good luck. SOURCE: new battery and alternator. Battery still won't hold charge

Check all your fuses if you had a system failure it could have blown a fuse. I am not sure on your vehicle where the fuse is in the car or under the hood it could also have a relay. You can check your alternator by checking the voltage at the back of the alternator where the big wire bolts on. You should have 14+ volts at the alternator.

96 dodge ram 2500 diesel turbo good batteries, alternator good.. batteries won't charge

check that the charge rate from the alternator is no ac current. A multi meter will show a charge rate of 13.5 to 14.5 volts but that could be unrectified current because of a failed diode in the rectifier in the alternator. Set the meter to read for ac voltage and if you have ac reading then have the alternator overhauled. Have a load test done to check the batteries for a problem cell under load.

2003 chevy tahoe at 1000 rpms service airbag cluster and dash lights go out

sounds like a low voltage issue like maybe the regulator in the alternator is not working below 700 rpm,,unless there is a severe load to the system thats causing the electronics to go all screwy at low rpm..may be looking for a new alternator..charging system check.. free at autozone(and most good parts stores)

What does it mean when the battery light comes on for my 2001 chevy Tahoe?

Usally it means that the alternator is not charging.Check the voltage coming out of the alternator with the engine running. It should be 13-14.7 volts and if its less than 13 volts or more than 15volts then replace the alternator. If alternator test good then check battery voltage you need at least 12 volts.

Replaced alternator and battery in 2002 Chevy Tahoe. Battery voltage remains between 9 and 14 (leaning more towards 9 and at times falling completely until trucks shuts off)

Hello,
When you say battery voltage how are you testing it? Are you looking at a gauge on the dash? Or are you physically testing it with a multi meter? If the truck is dying and you recently replaced the alternator and battery I would first suggest you to check all them connections again real good. Snug them all up. Check for corrosion and clean as needed. Did you replace the battery and alternator with new/re-manufactured battery and alternator? The alternator needs to put out at least 13.6 volts to charge your 12 volt battery or the battery will not maintain a charge. However the alternator runs the vehicle once it is started. The battery is used only to start the car and then the alternator runs it. So if your vehicle starts and runs and then dies you may have a bad alternator. Check your connections first and then test the alternator with a multi meter. Anything less than 13.6 volt will not suffice. 14+ volts would be the hopeful output of a good alternator.
regards, Tony

2004 chevy tahoe battery not charging light is on

here is how i solve my battery/charging issues:
1. as preventative maint. i purchase a new battery for my vehicle every 5 years regardless.
2. when i have a battery issue i call around to auto part stores to see who has the equipment to test the battery to determine if the battery is the problem.
3. if not the battery, often times the regulator (usually internal in the alternator) is the problem, an auto store may have the tester for this, again call ahead.
4. if its the internal regulator, you can have the alternator rebuilt or purchase a new one, basically a push either way.

good luck.

2007 Chevy Tahoe - noticed headlight flicker then shortly thereafter vehicle will not start. Have checked the battery and alternator both are fine. When trying to start there is a clicking noise that...

Either the alternator is not charging the battery or you have a draw that is draining the battery. The alternator must have power to the field coil and a good connection from the charge terminal to the battery in order to charge. You can confirm the batrery is charging by checking the voltage at the battery with the engine running. Voltage should be at least 13.5vdc. If yes, see dead battery section at link below.

Air conditioning compressor not getting power on 96 Chevy Tahoe

Freon is what you are missing, our more specificly a refigerant charge that exceeds 45psi on the low side pressure line. This system has two pressure switches, a high side cut-out switch mounted on the rear of the compressor, and a low side or pressure cycling switch on the suction line.
Jump the low side switch contacts to ensure the electronics are sound for this system. If the compressor cycles, you know the system is low on a refrigerant charge. Turning on the AC is a request, and certain criteria must be met before the system operates as designed. Good luck

if your oil smells like gas you need an oil change badly. while running the alternator should be charging at 13 up to 14 volts if it's not doing that then the alternator is bad if that battery is charged and it's hard to turn over then there is a loose connection either at the battery or the starter if everything is tight lean toward the starter
