Tip

Retrieve CEL (Check Engine Light) OBDII error/trouble codes for free

You don't need to go to a shop to retrieve CEL (Check Engine Light) OBDII error/trouble codes on your Chrysler PT Cruiser (and other Chrysler products too.) Just have a pencil and paper ready, and sit in the driver seat where you can view the digital odometer. Follow the procedures below to get the codes to display on the odometer.

If memory serves, there are a couple different procedures depending on the year of your PTC.

For the earliest PTCs:
1) Insert your key into the ignition in the OFF position.
2) Depress the Odometer reset button and hold it in.
3) Turn the key to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine) while still holding the odometer reset button.
4) Release the odometer reset button.

For later PTCs:
1) Insert your key into the ignition in the OFF position.
2) In quick succession:
A) Turn the key to the ON/RUN position. (Do not start the engine.)
B) Turn the key to the OFF position.
C) Turn the key back to the ON/RUN position.
D) Turn the key back to the OFF position.
E) Turn the key back to the ON/RUN position.

Be sure to copy down all and any codes because they will only display briefly. When it is finished flashing codes, it will display "DONE". (If it didn't display any codes, there aren't any in its memory, or they might be transmission codes, etc.) It might take a few tries to get it right. Don't give up if it doesn't work the first time.

Look online or go to ptcruiserlinks.com for a list of codes and what they mean. (The codes are universal, but not all car models will generate all codes.)

Cigarette lighter jack and outlet next to console no longer work. 2005 ford expedition.

Have you tried putting the key into the ignition and turning it to just before the start
position? Some vehicles do not operate the accessory jack with out the key in the
accessory (back) or just before the start position. If it still doesn't work, look for the fuse
marked ACC in the fuse panel. Hope this helps.

I have a 2005 lincoln ls with the check engine light on which gives a P2107 code. This indicates there is a 'Throttle Control Module' problem. I've reset the code several times. Recently, the...

Throttle actuator control position sensor....it's a small piece that goes in front of the engine.....cost about $110......must have Allen star key to take out if you're going to do it yourself.

Car ran fine put gas in it came home shut it off went to leave and it wont start

Does the engine turn over? If it does, then check to see if the check engine light comes on when you turn the key to the on position. If it doesn't, then the PCM is not receiving power. Check the orange power wire usually located by the battery to make sure it isn't damaged. Repair if necessary. If the check engine light comes on when the key is turned to on then crank the engine while observing the light. Does it go out while cranking? If it doesn't, then a problem with the crank sensor signal is indicated. If it does go out then the problem might be fuel related. Disconnect the air cleaner hose to the throttle body. Have someone crank the engine over while opening the throttle slightly. Spray starting fluid into the engine to see if it tries to start. If it does then a fuel related problem is indicated.
CAUTION : Wear safety glasses during this procedure. Be careful around moving engine parts.

Maint. req. light blinks 10 times after start up?

When a Honda Maint Req light blinks, but then stops, it is telling you to change your oil. If you don't change it, eventually, the maint req light will stay on. Here is how you reset the maint req light: 1) Turn they key to the II position
2) Turn the key to the off position, and push and hold in the odometer reset button
3) Turn they key back to the II position, while still holding the odometer button.
4) After about 10-15 seconds, the light should go off.

If that doesn't work, try it this way: p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Verdana}

With the igniition off, press and hold the odometer button, turn the key to the "on" position, but do not start the car. Keep the odometer button down until the oil light begins and ends flashing. Turn the key off, and then start car to see if it worked or not.

The car doesn´t start the battery is ok fuees ok

Do you have any check engine lights on? Is your anti-theft light flashing? If so, put key in igniton, turn to on (NOT START) leave in on position for EXACTLY 10 MINUTES
As SOON as theft light turns off, try to start.

There is a problem with your key.
