Question about 1999 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

1999 Ford Expedition intermittent starter problem I bought a 1999 FORD Expedition in Dec of 2007. 9 mos later I had problems with it starting. It wasn't starting consistently and I would be left stranded especially after longer trips. I took it in and there was an exhaust hose loose, it started. Now it won't start again unless I unhook a small hose towards the back of the engine where 3 small hoses come together at a T. It will start but the engine isn't strong. I can't spend a lot on a huge repair and don't want the runaround if I take it in again. Any info would be great.

Check the mounting bolts on the starter, and the cable connection. And the battery terminals. Frankster016

1999 ford expedition eddie bauer 5.7 will not turn over, later does, couple days later strands me agin

I would have a load test done on the battery as there may be an internal problem. There may be an intermittent fault in the starter ( dry joint in the armature, faulty solenoid ) so I would pull the starter and have it bench tested

Have replaced battery, starter, solenoid - now 3 weeks later it won't start again. my odometer flashes on and off - could this be my computer going bad?

Check for something draining the battery. It could be something like a switch on an under bonnet light or boot light sticking

My ford expedition 1999 wont start. i have replaced the starter, and the relay and tried a bigger battery, but it still only sounds like the starter won't turn, what else should i check for

fords have a problem with the wires on the starter getting really corroded and breaking,i would check the solenoid wires with a test light while a friend tries to crank it.
does it make any effort to turn the engine over or not.
what kind of noise do you hear when you try to start it

1997 Ford expedition intermittent start problem

the expeditions are know for having injectors stick open and will flood the cylinder causing hydolock, when it does this again remove the spark plugs and have someone roll the engine over, if fuel comes out of one of the cylinders then that cylinders injector is at fault. the motor will turn over after it sits because all the fuel will eventually run past the piston rings.

2007 expedition clicks when trying to start

this noise is caused by a defective starter solenoid,(mounted on the starter) either replace the starter or replace the solenoid.

1999 FORD EXPEDITION intermittantly will not start.

You have a bad starter. A faulty starter will function when its cold but when it heats up, it takes more energy to get the starter to engage. Your problem is exhibiting the classic symptoms of a bad starter. I hope this solves your problem and the best of luck to you.

Relay

There are 2 relays or solenoids as they called on a starter, one is on the inside of the fender under the hood, follow the positive battery cable, the other is on the starter, both do the same thing, later years only have the one solenoid on the starter.
