Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a 97 isuzu rodeo with a gas gauge issue, i replaced the sending unit and it didnt fix the problem so i replaced the fuel pump with the sending unit on it and still reads empty. the fuses have been checked and i took out the instriment panel and checked the ribbon connection and its fine too. the fuel pump is working fine. also have a problem with a high idle, i replaced the idle air control valve cleaned the mass airflow, replaced several vacuum lines and reset the ecu. after resetting the ecu it idles at 1000rpm for about 10 minutes and then goes back to 2000 and trips the check engine light again. any suggestions would be great!

SOURCE: 1997 Isuzu rodeo-dashboard light/air cond, heat not blowing

Easy fix. Usually the blower motor resistor gets messed up. (Page 3-8 Haynes manual 47017). The dash light could be a few things. All my bulbs went bad. Little bit of a hassle but no problem with the book.

SOURCE: Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....

Why my 199 isuzu rodeo gas guage shows blink all time eventhough it is gas tank is full

most common is the tank sender fails. disconnect it and check for dash indication to go away, if it does, replace sending unit.

My 1999 Isuzu Rodeos gas gauge shows empty with gas light on all the time even when full . has worked once in last week but very slow coming up

Try Replacing your gas sending unit or gas pressure sensor unit, both fairly east to replace with minimal expenses. If this does not fix the problem then change the fuel pump. But start with the gas sending unit.

1998 Isuzu Rodeo 6V, My Gas Guage does not work...what do I need to do?

Hello i had the same issue my gas gauge did not work and i had a bad fuel pump ,i ended up replacing my pump and realized the pump has 2 units attached to it one is the sending unit for the gas and the other the gauge level ,i encountered an issue when i swapped out the old pump for my new pump the gauge did not work any more after replacing,so i investigated after ruling out any wiring defect ,i made sure the pump was properly connected in its self the pump has a connector between the sending unit and the gauge level, and after that i realized the bcm, ECM, or vcm how ever its called (the computer) for my vehicle needed to be re-flashed completely for it to see the new pump... i never would have thought the main computer could not end up just detecting it automatically, all 98 and 99 must under go a re-flashing when any fuel pump is disconnected and replaced... hope that helped...

Signifique code p-1627

Trouble code P1627 means: PCM A/D Conversion Malfunction

This is a fuel sending unit code and it directly related to you goofy gas gauge. This is a common problem in 2nd Gen Isuzus. The fuel sending unit needs to be replaced. Most places will tell you that you must replace the entire fuel pump assembly module but you can buy just the sending unit.

Other faults to refer this problem and other c
odes: P0141, P0300, P0404, P1404, P1627, with this synthoms:
hesitates sometimes on takeoff, gas gauge gives random readings(sometimes will read empty, or full, or somewhere in between), Fuel light flashes sometimes.

Hope helps.

Problem with fuel gauge

most probable causes are either the sending unit or the guage in the gas tank

Gas gage doesnt work...can't find the sensor on the 2001 izuzu rodeo

HI, the gas gauge sending unit is located inside the fuel tank. it is part of the fuel pump assembly. you will need to lower the tank to access this sending unit. replacing the sending unit will fix this issue.

Smog test will not pass

This code is send (in your case NOT SEND)
by the fuel sending unit.

Does your fuel gauge give incorrect of jumpy reading when it's full?

The quick fix is STOP TOPPING OFF the fuel tank when you are get gas.

Keep topping off will push the fuel tank float off it's sensor limit and eventually short or send OUT OF RANGE reading to the fuel gauge.

Fill your truck up to 3/4 tank full.

Drive it for 2-3 days or about 100 miles.
(this will fill the ready-ness data that DMV want)

If there is NO check engine light ON during the 2-3 days then give the smog test another shot.

DO NOT add fuel unit you complete the smog test.

The CORRECT method to fix your problem is to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel sending unit.

If you truck has over 140,000 miles on it then I will recommend you the change the WHOLE integrated fuel pump/fuel sending unit and fuel filter at the same time.

Fuel Gauge Problems

Hey there. Well, I had the same problem on a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. I thought I'd take the easy out and just replace a fuel sending unit. Don't waste your time. Swap out the entire fuel pump. Go to your favorite autoparts store (Autozone) and ask for them to price the fuel pump. There will be options, get the part number for the cheap one ($80 Airtex, I got mine from a place in Miami). Look up the part number on ebay and buy it for about $80 complete. Spend the money and get a new fuel filter from parts store as well as a Haynes repair manual for the truck. Follow the instructions for fuel pump removal in section 4. You should have a degree of confidence on auto repair or take is straight to a reputable shop. You do need to do some very important things (relieve fuel pressure, drop the fuel tank with the truck on high ramps or jack stands, etc.). This is NOT for the novice. Otherwise, expect the task to take 4 to 6 hours if you don't have a lift. A shop should charge 1 1/2 hours labor and cost of the pump - you need to ask yourself what your time is worth.

Good Luck
