How and what tools do I need to remove my front shock on my 1977 elcamino. I've tried a vice grip to hold the shock as I turn the nut at the top just to have the shock turn to no luck

most shockies have two flats machined above the nut and thread
you use these flats with a shifter ( adjuster spanner or an open ended spanner that is a neat fi This stops the shaft from turning as you undo the nut
if your particular has what looks like a spline end then use the appropriate socket

Sump plug on 2005 Mitsubishi outlander turns but doesn't come out.

It would seem like the thread has stripped. You will have to try and pull the plug out whilst turning it. Get a pair of vice grips or similar on the plug across 2 of the flats on the nut and pull on this while turning the plug with an open end spanner. Sometimes this will cause the plug to jump a thread down to a good one and after a few turns you may be able to unscrew it as normal. You will need a new plug. Get one before you try to get the old one out. Hopefully, it hasn't damaged the threads in the sump.

first pull the auto tensioner towards upwards by hand then lock it by put a long 10mm bolt.before that you need a big double end spanner to unlock the fan and remove the fan guard in plastic in front of it...i once again review 1)remove the plastic fitted to radiator 2)remove the fan 3)lock the auto tensioner 4)remove the belt very easily and change it 5)reverse the process to fit all these... hint:you cant loose the fan nut so grip the double end in nut and hit it with hammer towards your right side...

How do I undo a stuck solid hydraulic pipe nut on a slave cylinder.

A 'C' spanner is the proper tool to get around the nut as much as possible whilst also clearing the pipe in the middle. Always take with the bleed nipples as they have a bad habit of just shearing off when a bit old and corroded. A normal spanner or a self gripping wrench risks rounding off the nut faces. Wire brush as much as you can around the nut and cylinder union to remove corrosion and dirt and apply releasing oil such as WD40. Let the oil work for about two hours. If you have the cylinder off the vehicle and you are intent on replacing the hyraulic pipe then cut it and fit a tight fitting socket on the nut. If the cylinder is still onthe vehicle and you want to keep the nut then a 'C' spanner is the safest bet. If you do use a self gripping wrench make sure that its jaws meet together squarely and that the teeth are still sharp and clean. When you apply the wrench you should clamp it on with the greatest pressure you can manage to avoid slippage. If the nut becomes rounded off then sacrifice the nut and pipe by removing the cylinder and using a grinder create new faces to opposed sides of the nut and use the self gripping wrench.

My locking wheel nut tool appears worn inside and just slips around the locking wheel nut. How can I get a replacement?

If the tool is slipping that means both wheel nut and tool are worn. The best thing you can do is buy or borrow a "gator grip" socket to remove the old locking wheel nuts and replace them with a new set and tool.

You can buy the gator grip socket in the UK these days, my son has just bought one for the same reason.

You need  some sockets, and a good 1/2' ratchet. Sizes 13mm, 14mm ,15mm, 16mm,17mm and 19mm to undo the nut holding the swivel onto the hub carrier.  You will need a 17mm,18mm & 19mm open ended spanners to crack open the lock nut that secures the tie rod end onto the steering rack end. You may also need a pair of mole grips or small stilson type grips to undo the worn tie rod as it may be partially seized. A can of WD40. I have listed a few different sizes of spanners and sockets because in my experience if the tie rod has been replaced before certain parts manufacturers use different size nuts!
You should be able to remove this without jacking the car up but taking the weight of the wheel will help.

first to remove the fan you will need a big spanner 1, 1/4 inch to be precise and a large hammer. with the fan belts still on and tight from the top, place the spanner on the nut just behind the fan with the spanner pointing straight up. then jar the spanner with the hammer towards the battery,(opposite direction to a normal bolt) once jared loose you should be able to turn the nut off. when refitting just do up firm with spanner

How do you change the fuel filter in my 94 prelude SRV?

There 2 filters on your car:

1. By either the left or right suspension strut tower (gold colored canister)
2. By the gas tank

I suggest you replace both.

The one by the gas tank is like a prefilter and I will start with that one first:

Jack up car and put on axle stands or ramps then locate filter on the fuel line. Disconnect hose clamp from gas tank hose side FIRST (inlet) and use a spare bolt to block off the line otherwise fuel will spill all over the place.

Disconnect other side (outlet) then replace in opposite order.

You will need to use the grip part (not the cutting part) of a pair of pliers to GENTLY twist the hoses to break the seal on the rubber hose has made on the pipes as after years of clamping pressure they are bound to be tightly sealed on there. Remember to do it gently as you run the risk of crimping the pipes (not good!)

Also the filter should come with an arrow stamped on the body of it. Be sure to install the new filter with the arrow pointing towards the front of the car (this is very important as they are designed to flow only one way)

Sometimes these filters dont attach with hose clamps. In this case you will need a flare nut spanner (see below for explanation)

Now for the one in the engine bay:

It might pay to disconnect the battery to avoid the risk of fire.

I'll warn you that the fittings on this one are pretty tight so you will probably need a big bar with a socket to crack them.

The top fitting is what is known as a banjo fitting whereby a big bolt goes through a ring that is connected to the pipe.

Below this ring will be a hex (like a nut as part of the body of the filter). Attach an appropriately sized spanner on the hex then attach the bar with socket to the nut.

The spanner on the hex part is used to stop the filter from twisting while you apply pressure to the bolt to undo it (you may need someone to help hold the spanner). Only undo it untill the boolt has 'cracked' then leave it.

The other fitting (inlet) will either be on the bottom of the filter or at the top by the outlet but either way directions are the same:

You will need whats called a flare nut spanner (also called a pipe spanner) the right size for the nut fitting. It's like a ring spanner but with a cutout in it to slip over the pipe and over the nut fitting.

You also have a hex type fitting on this side too so attach appropriate sized spanner, attach the flare nut spanner and loosen as you did the other fitting (using the spanner to stop the filter twisting).

Take both pipes off but be careful with the banjo fitting side as there are copper sealing washers and you want to remember where they go (replacement washers should come with the new filter)

Replace washers and fit pipes in reverse order, attach battery, start up and enjoy :)
