Question about 1998 Acura CL

1 Answer

My rear, passenger tire is wearing out to the inside and is squealing as I drive down the road

I don't see any visible signs of worn parts, but it is a double wishbone suspension and I am not very familiar with it.

How to Diagnose an Alignment Problem?

tire wear is a method of diagnosing an alignment problem
abnormal wear on the insides or out sides of the tread indicates a problem with toe in/out and or camber settings
wheel wobble at speed ( 20 mph up ) indicates castor setting problems
steering wheel not self centering after turns indicates castor settings
steering wandering on the road indicates worn steering /ball joints and or alignment settings out
car running sideways ( crabbing)on the road indicates worn rear suspension parts , broken center bolts on leaf springs ,and rear alignment problems which will affect front end alignment
this is indicated by the steering wheel position off center when driving straight ahead

What causes front tire wear on inside & outside edges

Under inflation. When the tire doesn't have enough air pressure, the center tends to be pushed up from the road. Thus causing outer wear on both sides. alignment problems cause wear on one side or the other. Over inflation causes the center of the tire to wear .

Passenger Front Tire wobbles

Bad bearings, or another worn suspension part. I'd have it checked by an alignment specialist.

My 1998 Acura CL 2.3L with double wishbone suspension has the rear, passenger side tire is wearing out on the inside and sometimes it squeals while driving.

Have the rear suspension checked for worn parts. If ok, an alignment check should show either negative toe setting, or a negative camber setting on that wheel. This can sometimes be adjusted out, but often indicates a bent component.

Rear wheels toeing in at top wearing inside of tyre

Your car needs a Rear Wheel Alignment, the components need to be inspected/checked for wear and then aligned. Worn ball joints, wheel bearings and so forth can cause bad alignment & tire wear.
Also it's hard to get an accurate alignment once a tire is worn on the inside or outside of the tread.

Noise from rear wheel area that sounds like bearing noise.

Might want to check your camber adjustments and look into shocks and struts. They could all be worn out but prolly the camber is off causing abnormal road noise and abnormal tire wear

Sounds like its either your "camber angle" or your tires aren't balanced correctly
