Question about 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Blinker, cruise issues...electrical?

I have a 2002 Chevy Impala. Several months ago the left side blinker started acting as if the light was out, it was not. Now the left blinker works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't at all. The cruise also was acting up and now finally stopped working all together. I've checkewd all the fuses and they are all fine. When the blinkers stop working if I pound the dash they will work again, which leads me to believe this is an electrical problem. Has anyone else had this issue with their impala? If so, is there an easy, inexpensive fix?

I should note it is the front left blinker that is giving me issues. When the left blinker is used it goes of and on really fast, usually indicating a burnt out bulb, but up until recently I could hit the top of the dash and it would work again (yes, I've had someone check for me) but then there are times when the blinkers just stop all together and again, when I hit the dash they will work. Used to be the same for the cruise control but that has now gone out for good as well. I could really use some answers. Thanks.

The problem is caused by the emergency flasher unit. This is a common problem and you can find a few youtube demos on replacing it. I did it in about 30 mins. I don't remember the cost but it was stocked at my local chevy dealership.
good luck.

This is a common problem with Chevy Impalas. I have a 2000 and had turn signal issues. If it is only the turn signal, replacing the hazard warning switch should solve the issue. However, if you are having problems with the cruise control as well, it may be your multifuntion switch. It is an expensive part, because it controls many things such as your headlights (hi & low beams), cruise control, wipers and turn signals. Instead of getting parts from you local dealer, auto parts stores are usually a bit cheaper. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: how do I change front blinker bulb on 2003 chev

  1. Turn the engine off and open the hood. Pry up the two fasteners from the radiator air baffle with a flat head screwdriver. Move the baffle to the side to access the top of the headlight case.
  2. Step 2 Pull up the two metal rods behind the headlight case. These secure the case to the car. You may need your pliers to pull them up.
  3. Step 3 Gently pull the headlight case out to access its rear. On the rear, you will find several black dust covers. Twist off the dust cover closest to the fender (the outward dust cover) to access the turn signal bulb.
  4. Step 4 Turn the bulb module counterclockwise to release it. Unplug the electrical connector from the bulb module. Connect the new bulb to the electrical connector (don't touch the glass with your hands; hold it by the plastic piece). Insert the bulb module in the turn signal housing, turn it clockwise and screw the dust cover back on.
  5. Step 5 Insert the headlight case in the mount. Push the pins back down to secure it. Position the radiator baffle in its place and insert the fasteners.
  6. Rear Turn Signal Bulbs
  7. Step 1 Open the trunk. Remove the net from the side mounted wing nut (on the side with the faulty turn signal). Twist the wing nuts (there are two per side) counterclockwise to remove them.
  8. Step 2 Peel the carpet layer back to access the rear signal lamp wing nuts. Twist these wing nuts (two per side) counterclockwise to remove them and release the rear signal.
  9. Step 3 Carefully pull the rear signal assembly away from the Impala. The rear turn signal is the inner bulb (closest to the trunk). Press the tab on the bulb module and turn it counterclockwise to release it from the rear signal assembly.
  10. Step 4 Pull the old bulb straight off the module (don't twist). Insert the new bulb in the module. Depress the tab on the connection and insert the module back in the assembly. Twist it clockwise.
  11. Step 5 Insert the rear signal assembly. Re-attach the assembly's wing nuts and push the carpet layer back in place. Tighten the other two wing nuts to secure the carpet layer and reconnect the cargo net

How to replace turn signal blinker switch in 2005 Chevy impala

There is only one blinker '. If it works for a left turn there is something else wrong. Check the lamps and sockets. Could be a broken wire.
Turn on the emergency flashers and walk around the car to look at all of the lights that should flash.

Our 2002 Chevy impala is having issues with the driver side blinker blinking really fast only when the brake and signal are on at the same time. What's up with that?

You do not have ground on that light unit so the bulbs are grouding each othe using earth on other side. Check wiring and ground connections and rectify.

2002 turn signal relay.blinker r side bink fast

The fast blinker is letting you know that your bulb is out. Once replaced, it will blink at it's regular pace again. This happened to me about a month ago and that's what the guy at the parts store explained to me. I put in a new bulb and everything is now back to normal. People were flipping me off and blowing horns at me for a couple of weeks every time I needed to turn left, well that's b/c my rear left signal light was blown out.

Right side blinker (front) on 2005 Chevy Venture won't work!

Typical problems like this are usually related to the turn signal switch, or the bulb. However, it is possible that you have a loose connection in your turn signal housing. I would check the housing and wiring going to the bulb, first!

IF you rule that out, then next step is turn signal switch. This will be replacement of the unit.
