SOURCE: crankshaft position sensor location

Hello. One way to check if it is working is when you try to start the car does the needle move on you tac? If not then your crank sensor is more then likely the problem. It is located on the backside of the engine under the intake manifold. If is in about the center of the block. There will be a 10mm bolt holding the sensor in. If you decide to change it yourself (not to terrible of a job) unplug the sensor, remove the bolt and spin it back and forth slightly while pulling it out. It may be stoburn and you might have to work at it for a little bit (not a done of room) but it will come. When it's out the sensor will be shaped kind of like an L. I have changed a few of these over time and they can be a little stoburn. To install just reverse the process.

The 1.8 is a J18 engine. On all Suzuki J engines, the crank position sensor is under the flywheel/flex plate. Yes, that will require pulling the engine or transmission. BUT the electrical connector to it is under the intake above the starter. So you can troubleshoot the system without pulling the motor. :) With this engine, the crank sensor is only used for miss-fire detection but will throw a code if bad.

1996 suzuki sidekick has a dash light "power" that is on and I have no idea what it means. I checked the power steering fluid and it is good.

There should be a power/normal switch on the console just to the right of the automatic transmission gear selector. (Labeled A/T on my '96, but "power" in my '92.) This switch changes the shift profile of the 4 speed automatic transmission.

Engine light comes on, when there is code stored in the computer of the engine. You will need to get the computer scanned at local motorcycle/bike scan center. They do it by scan tool. But if no code is detected, then there is a reset procedure to reset engine light. The procedure to reset is simple.Just plug in scan tool or code reading into OBD2 DLC 16 pin connector above right knee. press reset DTC. The reset is done.If codes are in case detected, then codes will point towards faulty part, and you can replace the part as per the codes detected. --------------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech,.
