SOURCE: 2004 Nissan Quest front control arm bushings

That control arm is technically un-servicable and by the end of the day after finding something, then trying to wrestle these in where they work properly, probably the best, easiest and cheapest in the end is to replace the control arm.

Take out your middle console and watch your shift cables as your shifting, you may have something stuck or maybe your shift cable bushing has broken. So i would just take the console out, and try shifting in all your gears. And then you will most likely find out what your problem is. :)) Good luck. Hope this helps. I have a saturn too and I LOVE IT!!! Good choice of a car!!! James Booth

Loose Gear Shift Lever

The car has to be on ramps.
When under the car have someone operate the shifter so you can see where the slop is in the shift linkages. The bushings that used to be there have disintegrated over time. You can buy new bushings at a Mazda dealership (tell them your car is the same as a 1989 323) and unbolt things and replace them. There is one bushing that won't unbolt and has to be cut out, which is why is fix these the cheap easy way.

Get some thick nylon tie wraps, and thread them into the gaps of the linkages. Keep feeding as many tie wraps as you can into the gaps. When you can;t force anymore in, tie off the straps, have someone operate the shifter and see if you can force a few more in.

When you're done, this repair is as good as the purchased bushings, and should last a long time...

yes, unless the bar is broken. Are the links broken? Just replace whatever is broken or worn out. Usually the bushings under the holddown clamps and the links and/or link bushings.
