It's probably the oil pressure switch. I have to replace min every 5 years or so because it does the same thing. Mine is mounted next to the filter on my '93. It's a little black thing with a plug in the end. You can get one at autozone for about $40.

is the oil pressure switch the same thing as the oil pressure sensor?

It should be the same thing. Pretty easy to replace with a large Adjustable wrench and use some thread sealer, i used teflon tape like you use in water pipes.

The oil pressure guage on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee is registering 0. My oil was just changed and I don't see any indication of oil leaking anywhere. Could it be the sensor?

First off I wouldnt drive your car until you make sure that you have indeed oil pressure and that the gauge is a false reading, driving your car if in fact it has no oil pressure will severly damage your engine, but firstly i would check the oil pressure switch its located on the passenger side of the engine right back from the oil filter make sure the connector is clean and free from oil and corrosion if the connector appears to be in good shape take a paper clip and insert it between the 2 terminals inside the connector your oil pressure gauge should peak at 80 PSI that tells you that your gauge and all related wiring are good and in working condition, secondly remove the oil pressure switch and hook an manual oil pressure gauge up to you engine and start the engine the guage should have a oil pressure reading anywhere from 30 PSI to 55PSI depending on engine temperature if theres oil pressure on your manual gauge replace the oil pressure switch with a new unit, if you still have 0 PSI on your gauge then stop your engine immediatly and start looking at your oil pump and lubricating system for a problem.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L engine. Oil

I'm assuming the engine is still running and no engine noise has occured due to loss of oil pressure, and it is just the gauge that is not reading? If so, the oil pressure switch that is located on the camshaft sensor, could have a bad connection or the oil sensor will need to be replaced. The oil sensor is located on the left side of the engine and is mounting horizontally on the camshaft sensor housing.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited oil pressure gauge is dropping to 0 when idling in gear. What is wrong and what do I have to do to ix it?

First check the oil level and top up as necessary. If the oil pressure is at 0 , then it would very quickly sieze the engine, that not being the case, it sounds like you need to replace the oil pressure switch/sensor, which will be mounted either on the engine block or on the oil filter housing. Hope this helps

Oil pressure loss

the 1st thing u do is have the oil pressure tested with a test mechanical gauge by a shop, most times it is just the oil pressure sending unit is defective, but never assume that is the problem, low oil pressure will distroy a $5000.00 engine very quickly, u can just try a new sending unit, but highly recommend a pressure test with a mechanical gauge before you run the engine anymore.

My oil pressure gauge is reading high, if the car is turned on and parked, or when ever I stop, the car is giving gas as if i was stepping on the gas pedal.

have oil pressure checked to see oil pump is faulty.make sure your oil is the right viscosity if too thick that will cause high pressure.if all is good.your pressure gauge is faulty.

Oil gauge fluctuates back and forth. sometimes

You'll need to determine if the oil pressure is actually changing, or if the sending unit or gauge is lying to you. Be certain the oil level is up to normal, then check the actual oil pressure with a test gauge. If the pressure varies (drops) at engine idle, perhaps your pressure bypass is defective, or perhaps the oil pump is worn. Testing with a known good pressure gauge should lead you in the right direction.

Oil gauge won't stay up

It sounds like most likely its your Oil pump, if you have no pressure at stop and when you hit gas it sets the C/E light off, Guages in dash wont set off Check Engine Light. Replace Oil Pump.

Gauge reading in red

Well, without being described what the gauge looks like, im gunna take a shot in the dark and say its the oil pressure gauge. You didnt say which way red either. You DEFINATELY need to have it checked out asap. As that will blow up your engine.
