SOURCE: tranny shifts hard and bubbles in tranny fluid 1998 cherokee

Either the unit is overfull or the filter is falling off the valve body. Both will cause foaming of fluid.

Clutchs in tranny are going bad, buy a new or remanufactured tranny to put in it, it is better than haveing it rebuilt It could also be the spring on the Throttle Valve being broken or installed in corectly. It is mounted on the side of trans. Follow the cable from Throttle Body to Transmission the spring should pull on the lever away from throttle body, or, the cable is not adjusted properly. Look for adjustments for the TV (Throttle Valve) cable.

Hope helps.

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer standard...when it gets cold outside it will not shift into any gear...if I let the truck warm up its fine ...I have had no problems all summer long but last winter did the same...

Dirty fluid, clogged trans filter, Torque converter dirty. Shift solenoid sticking.

Taking the trans pan off and working on the filter and refilling the system would likely help.

1994 jeep 42re transmission shifting problem

wow you know it's a 42RE
shocking here, to see that.
42RE has TCM, the only question is how to scan it and find it.
during the late 90s it was moved inside the ECU and became a PCM.
no need to post 23 years of normal service parts.
focus on 42RE, only it. please,
my guess is , not scanning the TCM blinds you to whats UP.>
read the real SM yet> on topic, chapter 21?
click ZJ and read.
ever seen topic , transmission in limphome mode (jeep limp-in)
this mode skips gears. (due to inputs to TCM wrong or other causes)
this box has an electronic governor.
it also does 4>3 downs shifts and TCC lockup on overheats.260f
lots of things it CAN do.
below 50F the TCC is disabled, to warm it up faster.
what does the OD lamp do.?
the lamp tells you when OD 4th gear is disabled, now in 3rd.
there are 2 speed sensor , one is a backup to main.
chapter 21 all this is clearly stated.
The PCM runs the trans, totally no separate TCM
says you need a DRB tool to scan this TCM section...
(my guess why you have no scans, and work blind,)

says there is a kickdown valve, so is the cable jammed full on
stuck in passing gear endlessly?

do not overfill the box. read how.
as some do , in a panic to get it to work , based on more is better.
its not. it foams up and DOOM sets in.fast.

wish we had more symptoms.?
goes to 3rd gear after a short distance
does that mean is starts in 3rd gear stopped?
in DRIVE or LOW? and does REverse work, at all times?
1 range and 2 range ? work? at all times? (lever names)
chapter 21, page 12 table. see that?
elaborate all Tranny issues, hot /cold engine, and all modes of travel and direction, good and bad, (both matter @!!!!) called a shop test drive and gathering all evidence , and the 0D lamps actions.

here is the step your shop skipped. step 1.
what if the PCM (tcm brain) says
sensor, bad, TCM, VSS, or other errors, most do,
it is the not looking first, that is the problem.
why replace a tranny for one bad wire, ???? that was clearly reported to you, if you only looked, (scans)

drb-tmsiu2m2gbqj4p32vnuvvaj4-4-0.jpg I hope scans , are a REVELATION.

1994 jeep 42re transmission shifting problem

I'm having a problem with my tranny not wanting to shift automatically at all. Seems like a dead stop its stuck in low gear. Have to manually shift and does not go into overdrive. I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can anyone help me cause I've swiched out throttle control sensor, filter change, new tranny cooler and heavy duty lines. I'm at a loss and scratching my head. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I also have a 2000 cherokee that has two very puzzleing problems it has a knocking noise in the engine that comes and goes oil pressure remains the same does not drop stays above normal one mornning you...

I think I can help you with trans issue, the knock is going to have to be "seen it action" to correctly diagnose.
RE: trans, I'd start with a good trans fluid & filter change. If you have someone do it for you, find someone that has capacity to power flush the system at same time.
Trans fluid contracts in cold weather and needs to warm/expand to build up correct pressures. New/clean fluid does it quickly and most people never notice it in cold weather. As it(fluid) ages, and as trans wears, that time to build pressure becomes more evident and cause delayed shifts. Also internals of trans develop build up, gummed up, sticky and in some cases condensation forms and mixes and dilutes trans fluid. A good rule of thumb, change trans fluid & filter every 50k and sooner if you do any towing. Hope that helps...

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee shifting problem from 2nd to 3rd

Check the kick down cable. If it sticks the transmission won't shift. I sprayed WD-40 on both the top and bottom connectors , and it worked like a charm. It's alot cheaper them spending 2000 on a new transmission you don't really need.

02 jeep grand cher. stays in 1st gear till 4500 rpm's before changing. I replaced the transmission speed sensor and it was fine for about 3 weeks then started it again. Would a shift solenoid sensor help...

Which trans do you have??? The 4.7 has the 45RFE and the 4.0 has the 42RE. If you have the 42RE, try replacing the connector on the output speed sensor. I have seen intermittent problems with the connectors as they get older leading to falling into low gear and not shifting up

2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo hesitates in 2nd gear when cold

Is it manual or auto trans? If manual the gear lube is thicker when cold and the syncronizers tend to stick and not slide free for grind free shifting or for locking into gear.
If Auto trans if the jeep is warmed up setting then cycle the gears before driving. If that helps then the fluid is not getting through the valve body properly. It could be metal in the body or filter or cold seals are letting fluid by til the seals warm, expand and hold pressure. I'm assuming trans fluid is good, not old. One item that can lead to poor cold shift in an auto trans is a bad torque convertor. Since it seems to be a second gear issue the second section of the trans could have a bad seal. In an auto trans I'd take to a shop and have a cold pressure test done. They will tell which one is the problem.

Transmission skips 3rd gear then gears down into proper gear

no transmission stated, of the 5 possible that year.
find another shop, find ASE rated shop
no DTC, no joy here, why post with the key fact missing?
vague, sure, P0700, is the common vague (means see DTCs from TCM )
that code means your lame shop has a TOY grade scanner
that can't scan all jeep codes, see all TCM errors.
the shop manual lists them all.
its free to read.

x2 grounds.
x2 service it , full flush.
x2, scan it right this time,,,

BTW
some TCM skip gears in LIMP-IN mode.
in failure mode, you need to fully scan the
TCM. it could be valve body, or, TCM doing it on purpose because VSS is funky or other inputs to the TCM are wrong.
if you dont learn all TCM errors, you will never know ,will you?

worst yet, no transmission stated
