SOURCE: 2003 Ford Ranger Fuel filter replacement.

The high pressure fuel line clips are tricky you must use a small straight slot screwdriver to pry the hidden flange tab out and away, you should be able to pry it gentle from the side in order to slide the U type clip out and away from its seat. It is difficult for me to show you with out an illustration so I can only verbal descibe the best I can to you . You may want to purchase a Haynse repair manual which has illustrations showing how.

SOURCE: 1992 Ford Ranger fuel filter replacement. Where is

Inside the frame rail on the driver's side. You'll need a 5/16" (8mm) socket if it is the type that is held in with a hose clamp, or a 10mm if it is the bracket type. Some of the lines are held in with white plastic clips, others by special springs. If it is the type without clips, you'll need a special tool to release them. Also, if it is the type without the plastic clips, make sure they gave you the right filter. If the new filter is shorter than the old DO NOT PUT IT ON. If you do, you will have to cut it off next time you have to change it as the tool will not fit in. The two filters look the same except the tubes are longer on the non-clip filter.

SOURCE: location of fuel pump relay on 89 ford ranger 2.9

It's powered by fuse #1 in the battery fuse box, so I would think it should be right there somewhere. If it isn't labeled, see if you can turn the box over to see where fuse #1 leads to.

My ranger 89 2.3 starts up idels way up then gos dead

Just before a car runs out of gas it will speed up the idle (rev up) backfire and then die. You are probably experiencing a lack of fuel. Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail that goes to the fuel injectors. It should probably read between 5 and 15 lbs. If the pressure is bad, it could be a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Obviously it is cheaper to start by changing the filter. The line could also be clogged. If it has good pressure all the way up to the fuel rail, it could be clogged fuel injectors.

My 89 Ranger will some times start but act like its out of fuel and die then not restart. Installed new fuel pump and filter and still have same problem.

I would check the fuel pressure on it. You may have bad fuel injectors or a leak. If that checks out, it could be bad plugs. Can you get any codes? Check engine light on? Feel free to contact me back. I am here to help. Thanks for using FixYa.
