Question about 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I have a 2000 ford f250 with a 6.8 v10. If I have the heater on and come to a redlight I notice my rpm's jump from around 900 to maybe 1200 and it goes back and forth like jumping.. If you have the heater on and park the truck it still does it and from the engine compartment I can hear something click each time it jumps almost like the AC is on or like the fan is going on and off but it is to rapid to be either of these I think? Any ideas??

The A/C and the defroster will make the compressor run... it should not make the RPM vary this much unless there is a problem..(Overcharged, clutch going bad..etc..)

It could be a spark plug, plug wire, or a coil. Sometimes thay break down intermittently. If it needs a tuneup, that would be the first thing to do.

on the sohc engine there is a rubber elbow on back of the valve cover going over to a line at the fuel injection that cracks at about 100K miles and lets the engine **** air and it will idle horrible til you fix it. Check this and see if it's not your problem...I've had it happen to 3 sohc engines and the dealer wanted $400 to fix the first one for my friend...Took about 30 seconds to pop the hood and pull it off, 3 minutes to glue it back together, an hour to dry, and 30 seconds to reinstall it...

You said you tightened the battery cables, did you check the other end of the negative where it bolts to the engine. When you tightened the cables you also used a battery brush and cleaned the posts and ends?

The only thing I can this is a vacuum leak, either a hose or egr valve.

Mazda3 rpm's go up and down while driving


After I had the throttle body of my 2005 mazda3 cleaned, the RPMs would jump drastically - bouncing back and forth up to 16 times! The service manager seemed perplexed...and ultimately the solution was TIME. The bouncing gradually diminished and then stopped...can't remember for sure, but it was probably over about 6 weeks, maybe about 1000 miles.

I replaced the idle air control valve on my 2003 Ford Expedition, 2wd 4.6L, and disconnected the battery to reset the computer,but now the engine idles high around 1000-1200 rpm's and it will fluctuate...

re disconnect the battery wait ten seconds reconnect and then when you start the vehicle hold accelorator at the rpm you want it to be at you have to do this to reset the idle simple fix no worries hope this helps you have a wonderful day

1999 golf 1.6 sr engine tickover 600 jumps to around 900 back to 600 irrattic worse when cold but can do it when warm thx


sounds as if your mass air meter is badthis will cause the fluctuation in rpm it is located on the airfilter box
