Question about 1992 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

Heater not kicking on.

During the warmer season the air condtioner worked perfectly, but now that it's getting cooler i've turned the temperature up for heat but it doesn't heat up it just blows air (cool air). I have also smelled a sweet smell every now and then. I know that it's anti-freeze. Does that mean my car is getting hot? How often should anit-freeze be put in it. I have had to put some in twice in the last 3 months? I know that's not right is it?

Why temperature is vary from region to region?

There are many causes:
- the seasons, which is the distance and angle of the sun at noon
- distance from the sea, which regulates coastal temps
- high and low pressure fronts, which are warmer and cooler
- winds, which are usually warmer from a given direction
- latitude of the location, polar regions are always cooler

Heat not working

Sounds like the air blend door is not opening to let heat in.

Engine coolant is provided to the heater system by two 16 mm (5/8 inch inside diameter) heater hoses. With the engine idling at normal running temperature, set the heater-A/C controls as follows. Temperature control to full Heat, Mode control to Floor, Blower control to the highest speed setting. Using a test thermometer, check the air temperature coming from the center floor outlets and compare this reading to the Temperature Reference table.

If the floor outlet air temperature is insufficient, check that the cooling system is operating to specifications. Both heater hoses should be HOT to the touch (the coolant return hose should be slightly cooler than the supply hose). If the coolant return hose is much cooler than the supply hose, locate and repair the engine coolant flow obstruction in heater system.

POSSIBLE LOCATIONS OR CAUSE OF OBSTRUCTED COOLANT FLOW
If coolant flow is verified and the heater floor outlet temperature is insufficient, a mechanical problem may exist.

POSSIBLE LOCATION OR CAUSE OF INSUFFICIENT HEAT
  • Obstructed cowl air intake.
  • Obstructed heater system outlets.
  • Blend-air door not functioning properly.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
If heater floor outlet temperature cannot be adjusted with the heater-A/C control temperature control lever, one of the following could require service:

My 2002 Toyota Celica fogs up and collects moisture on the windshield during or after a rain. Visibility is a major problem. Need help, this is truly unsafe.

Can be that your heater core or hose inside car is sometimes releasing alittle heat at the clamps. So long the inside of the floor is not wet or damp or car is not over heating. I would not worry about the heater to much inside unless this does not work...
Change the automatic climate control up or down to cooler or warmer i usually run it at least upto 10 or 20 degrees different than the outside anytime i drive mainly during rain or snow.. So if outside it is warmer means you need to be cooler and cooler means get warmer. Also If you don"t run that on a regular basis a quick Ac on and defroster front and back works well and generally fast.I really think that is all of your problem just get comfortable with your automatic climate setting. once in a while it may happen again only because of rapid temp. changing from outside air to inside air in your car..Rain X works really well for a couple weeks between apps.and saves wiperblades during raining times. Always drive safely and good luck 11_21_2011_5_34_27_pm.jpg

2000 silverado w/100,000mls. Heater will not get hot. AC works perfectly.

Raise the hood, get the truck up to normal running temperature, with heater on, and see if you can feel the temperature of the hoses going in to firewall that attach to heater core. Careful, they may be hot, or at least one should be, but both should feel pretty close to same temperature. If one is quite a bit cooler than the other, then I suspect no or little flow getting through that heater core. Have a look for possibility of a flow control valve in one of the heater hose lines as well that may be malfunctioning. Another thing would be to listen under dash for movement of doors while switching temperature setting from hot to cold and back and forth.

2002 Lancer 2002 A/C won't kick in at hot weather temperature during the Summer in Texas. It works perfectly at cooler temperature such as morning or cloudy day. The A/C also work while engineer is hot...

Okay, here are a few possibilities. First, they do make a High performance freon and carry it at Autoparts stores. Second, moderation. All A/C systems have a low pressure cutoff switch and a high pressure cutoff switch. You want to stay below the high limit. Freon is a gas and will generate more pressure when the outside air is hotter. The switches run $20 to $40 each. It may be possible to change to different pressure numbers without blowing a hose. You old switches could be weak.
