We have the same problem with our 2001 Mercury Sable. Everything else works. Have you found a solution yet?

I have a 2002 sable and i started up the car this a.m. the emergency flasher lights stayed solid and the cluster light would not come on. I thought maybe it was the dimmer switch, but it seemed to work fine and could turn on the interior dome light. I am going to check the fuse today, and i will post if i have a positive result.

Are you sure the cluster lights are not just turned off at the light dimmer control by the headlight switch?

I think I have a solution to this problem.

It started with the alarm going off intermittently in my 2001 Sable. About a week ago my instrument panel lights started doing the same thing (cutting out and the flashers would come on with no flashing). After I disconnected the alarm sensors under the hood and in the trunk, the instrument panel problem went away and my alarm no longer goes off at all hours of the night. Hope that helps!

Has anyone figured this problem out? Our 2002 Sable just started this as well...instrument cluster lights out, turn/hazard lights on when the headlight switch is turned on. This has the auto on/off switch with fog lights. This is happening in the auto and manual on mode. Any solutions would be appreciated.<br />

2002 mercury sable auto head lights don't work have to turn on manuall

If that was my car, I would go to the wiring diagrams
I buy for all my vehicles when I first get them

From there you make some choices as to how the system
works & where to start your testing or in an extremely rare
case replace something

I simply can't tell you if that switch you turn is bad or it
is good & it's output goes to a module, need to see the
system on paper

I can't get the !brake light on my 2000 mercury

First, check that your emergancy brake lever or foot pedal is pulled all the way up.
The next thing is probably either dirt on your anti-lock sensors at the wheels,or air getting into the line or low brake fluid in reservoir. don-ohio

2002 Sable - Interior light stays on all the time when car is running. When the car is shut off the mirror safety light should only stay one for a short time but stay on for 15 minutes.

you have either the thumb wheel switch beside the headlamp switch is turned all the way up or a sticking door ajar switch.
Does the door ajar light in instrument cluster stay on?
If so then you can shoot some WD-40 into the latches on the side of the doors then open and close them firmly a few times and this will usually unstick them.

The heater is located in the air ducting plenum box, to access this you must remove the instrument cluster, the radio and the heater controls, then unbolt the entire dash and remove it. This is a huge job, around 10 hours.
