Question about 1995 GMC Jimmy
My brake lights stopped working after I tried to turn on my Emergency Flashers while towing a trailer. As soon as I turned on the Emergency Flasher button on the steering column I had no turn signals, brake lights or emergency flashers. After turning the Emergency Flasher button back off I have turn signals again but still no brake lights. I checked all the fuses in the fuse panel on the side of the dash and just finished replacing the brake switch on the brake pedal under the dash, still nothing. Any suggestions on what to try next?
Brake lights run through the hazzard switch. There are known problems with this, and the multifunction switch. You may need to buy a new hazzard switch and OR the multifunction switch. Before you do that, check the pigtail that goes into the brake switch up by the fender, make sure it's not shorting out up there. Happened to me!

SOURCE: 1997 sonoma turn signal flasher
it is inside, under dash, on left side is a plastic sound protector, mine had 3 screws holding it up, drop this down and straight in you will see a 1" round thing - this is the flasher, pull it out and replace with new one (there are two flat prongs that plug in). It appears this is a well guarded secret!

Could be the multifunction switch problem: http://www.automotix.net/autorepair/recalls/gmc-jimmy/
Summary: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING 5,862 MY 2000-2002 CHEVROLET BLAZER, MY 2000-2001 GMC JIMMY, AND MY 2000 OLDSMOBILE BRAVADA SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH COULD DEVELOP AN OPEN CIRCUIT CONDITION THAT RESULTS IN THE STOP LAMPS AND THE REAR HAZARD LAMPS BECOMING INOPERATIVE. THE CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP AND TURN SIGNAL FUNCTIONS ARE NOT AFFECTED.
