Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a 2004 Vw Lt 35 van that has recently broke the timing belt & has been rebuilt, but after about 400 miles it got very smokey when you start it but would stop when the engine warmed up & would last only for a few days & stoped for a few weeks & would start again,it also lost fuel economy after the first full fill by about 100 miles to the tank. Now it has got very smokey again & it burned about 2.5 litres of oil in 6 days. The power seems to be alright but my mechanic thinks its the turbo as there is more oil in the air ways than normal, could this be the problem?

SOURCE: BMW X3 2.5si M series. High Oil Consumption

hi, this consumption seems high, i would take it to a dealer and ask them to check the oil sensor.......
P.S. is there a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust, if so, it may be burning a little oil, ask dealer to check it

SOURCE: computer saying oil press, stop motor , also the

Hi. well that light means that you have a low oil pressure probably because you have been using the regular conventional oil instead using syntetic oil thats what causes clogs inside the engine because this type of car uses syntetic oil so if i was wanting to fix that myself ill start by using an engine flush before every oil change (remember to use syntetic oil) and that might help but ill be wise to take it to a garage just to make sure it has oil pressure.

The 3.3 L Caravan engine does not use a timing belt.. It is timing chain set up. What belt are you talking about that broke?? The serpentine belt that drives all the accessories??

Cambelt or chain

Your 2005 VW Golf has a timing belt and not a chain.
Most importantly, your VW has what's called an interference engine.
If th eblt breaks, it will allow the valve to collide with the pistons and you will have major damage.

Be very careful to replace the belt on or before the manufacturer's recommended replacement interval.

VW originally recommended 60k miles or 5 years but that in 2004 or 2005 they changed that to 40k miles or 3 years after seeing belts (and therefore pistons and valves) go pop after about 45k.

When do i change the timing belt?

The FX 35 and 45 are not timing belt vehicles, they are timing chains and do not need to be replaced.

2004 aveo timing belt broke, all valves bent

just go to any junk yard and find a used deawoo lanos and pull the head if timing belt was not broke, if it looks good, its a exact fit 100%, no special tools needed, just normal wrench set and torqe wrench. after head is installed, get a gates timing belt only.
